View towards west from the observation deck of the new Shanghai Tower, currently the tallest building in Shanghai and the second tallest in the world.
This is the big Huangpu River bend, with the Bund, the mouth of Suzhou Creek and the twin towers of the Shanghai IFC in the lower foreground.
I added some notes to identify buildings or other features in the picture, some of these notes contain links.
And, as usual, flickr wrongly assigns "Hongkou" as location name.

This night photograph of two historic landmarks in was taken from the East bank of Singapore River: Cavenagh Bridge (the first suspension bridge) and Fullerton Hotel (the former general post office).
It was a breezy evening. Beyond the protective railing in the foreground, the colourful illuminations for Cavenagh Bridge and Fullerton Hotel were reflected by the wavy surface in the River.
Eustoma – rodzaj roślin należący do rodziny goryczkowatych.
Eustoma - a genus of plants belonging to the gentian family. Depending on the shot, it includes 2 or 3 species. They are found in prairies, in light forests, often in dry places, also in areas transformed by man in the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.
This was another image from my visit to the Design Museum late last year in London. Its quite an amazing building in general but this little piece of magic was not immediately apparent. To see it you had to be on the top level and then make a point of looking up. I assume they are some kind of rafter supports and for the most part they are obscured by the large sail-like structures that are suspended from the ceiling that you can see here in the middle foreground. B&W was the only way to go with this one.

Birds of a feather
Got to fly together
A plant from the West Coast of New Zealand now living on the East Coast...I just can't remember the name of it :)
Dusky moorhens
The adult in the foreground was repeatedly showing the youngster how to get a certain weed under the water, immersing its head and bringing up strands of vegetation, but not sharing any of the bounty. The young one was most attentive, watching carefully for quite a while. Then it finally cottoned on and started copying its mentor.
After another heatwave, it finally rained again yesterday and everything is cool :) So in the morning, I grabbed my camera and raincoat and went to a conservation forest I enjoy. There were only a handful of other people there - I mostly had it to myself.
With all the heat we've had, many of the trees are losing their leaves already and turning brown.
Here, I used the same Pentacon vintage lens I used on yesterday's image. It has a fixed 2.8 aperture, so I could either focus on the branches in the foreground or the couple. I tried both and preferred this image.
The skies were a bit hazy from the fires burning created a misty and almost mystical sunset that was fun and interesting to try and frame with the silhouetted trees in the foreground. Would make for a neat painting as well.
Winter heightens the drama at Death Valley National Park.
Certainly, this is known as the hottest place on earth, and contains the second lowest point in the western hemisphere, but most people are unaware that this is the largest national park in the lower 48 of the continental United States. The park also contains large portions of the Argus, Panamint and Amarcosa mountain ranges, with Telescope Peak reaching 11,049' in elevation.
The view from Zabriskie Point (named for a Vice-President of the Borax company, which mined here with their famous 20 mule-teams in the early twentieth century), captures the sandstone badlands of the Amarcosa in the foreground (including the Manly Beacon and Red Cathedral), Death Valley, and the Panamint Range as the backdrop.
On a chilly winter morning following an exceedingly rare rainfall, the skies are dramatic with the sun reaching through some of the cloud layers, but not others, to create drama and colors, not normally captured here.

My first photography of the year is of a beautiful wild rabbit eating grass in a meadow, illuminated by the evening light. At one point, it began to hop nimbly when it saw another animal approaching, until it got quite close to me and gave rise to this image, with the rabbit in the foreground, expectant, alert to any threat, but also expectant, waiting for the sunset that was gently illuminating it.
Another one from the Azores, this time from the island of Terceira. Not a perfect foreground, but I couldn't get out of this garden quickly.
I'm trying out a different camera and some alternative software to those I am familiar with so I think the phrase 'clarting about' comes to mind, or for those technically minded 'experimenting'. I know it needs further work, but thought I would post it as a starting point.
The above shot was taken earlier this evening and now that I have found the spot, will be a frequent visitor as it is only a very small detour from my usual journey to and from work.
Cissbury Ring trees.
Re taken after an attempt last year, in an effort to adjust the relevant settings to have the foreground and the background all more or less in focus.

In the foreground you can see the former North Shore railway line which now ends abruptly at Luna Park. Prior to the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, and the construction of Luna Park in 1935, this precinct was a huge (and ugly) railway terminal where passengers would transfer to the ferries that took them across the harbour to the city. It was also a commercial port facility.
In 1932 the North Shore railway line was re-directed up onto the 'new' harbour bridge. In this historical aerial photograph from 1930 you can see where the 'end of the line' met the site that is now Luna Park:

I could not pass-up photographing the Milky Way Galactic Core at Joshua Tree N.P. The sun set early and the galactic center was visible by 7:30 p.m. in October. I was able to take several images before being spooked by curious coyotes. Here, I took two pano shots and used a flash light set at a low level to illuminate the foreground. There was a fair amount of light pollution in the background and two Orionid meteors made appearances during the exposures. Used Lightroom and Photoshop to merge and develop the images. Hope you enjoy!
Another superb sunset at the back of the house. I could see it was going to be a good sunset, but the M6 Motorway is shut meaning the traffic on the A6 adjacent to my house was stationary, so the prospect of going anywhere wasn't an option.
I had seen this dead tree limb in the field under the tree on the left of this shot and for want of some foreground interest, I dragged it out to this location. I used my 14-24 lens to get a better sunstar than the 16-35 manages. The colours were incredible with the air being much clearer after some rain.

This long exposure blue hour photograph was taken from the North embankment of River Thames during my visit to London in early October.
The illuminated high-rise buildings in South bank and Blackfriars Bridge were complemented by the light trails of a river taxi in the foreground.
Omis, Croatia, after sunset, the Cetina river in the foreground meets its end at the Adriatic in the upper left side. The white balance is typical of my 6D, way too blue.
An interesting mixture of trees, boulders, deadwood, grasses, and rocks that create an unique arrangement of foreground elements that lead to the grandeur of the Owachomo Natural Bridge offering a compelling perspective that leads to the natural bridge.
It’s Christmas day and the scrappers working in Wisconsin Central’s Shops Yard locomotive facility at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, are home with their families enjoying the holiday. In the foreground, torched hoods sit on the ground, and the prime movers, generators and other engineroom components already gone from the locomotives. The job isn’t done yet, but the fate of these three former Soo Line GP30s is sealed as WC Nos. 709, 717 and 718 are not much more than scrap metal on December 25, 1994.

Possibly my favourite composition at Ringing Roger with the foreground rock creating an 'x'. I've stood here many times perfecting the composition. It felt quite precarious yesterday with the frozen rocks.
These are the best conditions I've had. Often, patchy doesn't work, creating too much contrast. But the hard frost decreased the contrast on the rocks.
I couldn't fit the foreground rock into one frame for the previous upload as I only had 24mm equivalent lens. This is good though as going wider reduces the impact of Loose Hill and the Great Ridge.
