A plant from the West Coast of New Zealand now living on the East Coast...I just can't remember the name of it :)
Still lots of rain here. But I went to walk in our wonderful yet wet botanical garden in the drizzle. Regardless, lots of color. Here's a part of the Hortus's fine collection of Rhododendrons. In the foreground a white gathering of Wild Garlic. All made for fine colors on an otherwise drab day.
The picture was taken from the viewing platform in park above the Dnipro River. In the foreground is the Podil district. This is the oldest part of Kiev. Here you can take an excursion on a pleasure boat.
There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.

Sunrise over Minneapolis (background) and Edina (foreground) from my drone at 400 ft (191 meters).
Cissbury Ring trees.
Re taken after an attempt last year, in an effort to adjust the relevant settings to have the foreground and the background all more or less in focus.
… over to Bamburgh castle
In the foreground a collection of boats.
I’m not from Northumberland, I’m from Lancashire, I’ve worked in Yorkshire for 31 years and lived there for 11 years.
However, I think that Northumberland is Britain’s most beautiful county. Lush countryside, beautiful beaches, and too many castles to wave a stick at.
If you’ve never visited Northumberland I thoroughly recommend it… If you’re coming from overseas it really is a must to visit.
Looking forward to when we visit again!

Went to Castle Hill last night looking for some Milky Way pics, I was particularly interested in doing a timelapse to record the star trails. And boom! This is what I was hoping for. Anything goes with night sky photography, hence this is a composite. First I took the foreground 240 sec exposure, f/5.0, ISO 3200. Next I took a timelapse of 240 images, 30 sec exposure,, f/2.8, ISO 1000. I only used the first hour worth of images as the full two hours became too busy. Denoised in DxO PhotoLab 6.5. Star trails stacked using Sequator. Finally composited with the foreground using Affinity Photo.
Foreground reflections 2, to get to this spot requires skill, to get out of this requires more skill:)

An early morning (blue hour) shot of the San Giorgio Maggiore church taken from the edge of San Marco square in Venice The moored gondolas that make up the foreground leave no doubt to those viewing the image of its instant recognisable location
An old shot I've just got round to processing - (I'm very slow)
This week is the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London so this one seemed appropriate - I've posted a wider shot of this evening before with the old wooden posts in the foreground.
Here I'd zoomed in to 55mm to get more detail in Tower Bridge & the City but had to create a pano to include the Shard & Tower 42.
I particularly liked the burning red reflections in the windows of the Thames Clipper & Tower 42 in this one.
One of those grey overcast days where I wasn't expecting any colour but the Sun broke under the cloud right at the end.
The sky colour was so intense that the raw file was too saturated to need any increase.
The Great Fire of London was started in Pudding Lane by the Royal Baker (inadvertently) in 1666 - so they say.
Luckily very few people were thought to have been hurt & the fire succeeded in sterilising most of the run down slum filled bits of London that had been ravaged by the Great Plague.
For some reason Great Fires, Puddings & Bakers brought 'The Great British Bake Off' to mind.
If you're a fan of the show like my wife - (although I suspect the real reason she watches it is to see the steely eyed scouser - Paul Hollywood) - & you're a serious baker - be sure to turn off the oven before going to bed :))
Thanks to everyone for taking the trouble to view comment or fave.
An interesting mixture of trees, boulders, deadwood, grasses, and rocks that create an unique arrangement of foreground elements that lead to the grandeur of the Owachomo Natural Bridge offering a compelling perspective that leads to the natural bridge.
First snowfall of the season at Crater Lake..This place spends most of the year under ice and snow..Nice to catch it in a transition..

A grey heron perched on a branch near the water's edge. Tall reeds and branches frame the foreground, while the water and a rocky, arid background provide contrast. The bird appears to be either a Grey Heron or a Great Blue Heron, which are very similar species.
Herons often stand motionless as they scan for prey or wade with deliberate steps. This title highlights their hunting technique.
The image utilizes natural framing with the dense vegetation on the left and bottom guiding the viewer's eye towards the heron and the open water. The heron is positioned off-center, adhering roughly to the rule of thirds.
The scene appears to be well-lit, likely under bright daylight, creating strong highlights on the water and the rocky terrain in the background. The lighting highlights the textures of the reeds, the water ripples, and the bird's feathers.
The colors are vibrant, featuring deep greens from the reeds, blues from the water, and earthy browns/tans from the rocks and dry vegetation. The heron's grey-blue plumage stands out against the background.
The photograph evokes a serene, natural atmosphere, capturing a quiet moment of wildlife in its habitat. The bird's still posture and focus on the water give the impression of a watchman guarding the riverbank.
Sorry no ducks on this creek ..think they flew south. A lovely old iron bridge - no longer for trains but bikes and humans can walk across.
The bird in the foreground was real, the group of birds in the sky are fakes created via Luminar AI sky creative enhancements. A view minutes before I took the shot the scene looked like that. But I missed the other birds. Only one bird made no hesitation to remain at the spectacular place enjoying the nice view. With a WW 25 I was pretty close to it.
firs in foreground, larch on far left, a lone pine out behind, but mostly an aspen grove towering over, our westside shady hangout in summer
I was in the garden and tried to take photos of the cats when a dove took off from a tree in a neighbouring garden, All I managed was a quick snapshot but I like the way the sunshine illuminates the wings. In the foreground are the young spruce cones on a tree in my own garden.
I was struggling a bit with comps at this location as the sand was not pointing in the direction I wanted so I had to improvise. These flowers made for a good foreground interest so took one shot to expose the flower and one for the background and blended them. Turned out ok!! Kris..
I'd like to say that I made this image in a mysterious place with no name, but it was actually made near the village of Ingleby in South Derbyshire. I had waited patiently for over an hour for the sun to illuminate these foreground poppies against the backdrop of the passing storm. It was a fabulous moment when it finally arrived.
A rare exotic moth flutters under the moon and steals through her lace curtains.. I couldn't even know if her curtains were lace but I imagine them so as she tells me her story.. I wish I could ask her.. his fluttering wings would stay there with her all night.
This is the magic and poetry of her, my dear friend April. The same gentle soul who taught me to crush delicate white egg shells from the kitchen and sprinkle them in the dark soil of my April in Paris roses. The bushes we got together and planted at the same time a thousand miles apart only a couple Springs ago now a bittersweet reminder of her grace and beautiful strength. Yesterday, we lost April and the world will never look the same without her sensibility and loving friendship that warmed me so..
My deepest sympathies to her friends here on Flickr that loved her and were there for her so fiercely and compassionately, you know who you are, you were a loving and driving force in April's life.
Sleep well my rose sister.
This is a self portrait April took for me last year.
In the foreground she also exhibits the beautiful gardenia Polaroids by her dear friend Susan .

Embracing you in my thoughts.

From the top of Pizzo dei Tre Signori a panoramic view of the Rhaetian Alps of Val Masino with Monte Disgrazia. In the foreground the Pizzo Trona.
Well as we walked around Rolley Lake looking for shots, I saw this frozen shrub surrounding the lake. I loved how the warm sun was hitting it but it was still frozen, not for long though!! Kris...
See that white post in the lower left foreground? As I was setting up my tripod for this bridge shot I noticed a dark object fly past and land on that pole. Thought to myself "has to be an owl", it was 10pm. I figured it was a GHOW, but when I put my flashlight on it, it was a Short-eared Owl. I took a few long exposure shots with it illuminated before it flew off to hunt. Pretty crazy to see a SEOW in the Bay Area in June!
