there are inexplicable moments when you know you are looking at something and that it seems broken and you are sitting there looking at it and it's all messed up but you're not sure if you are responsible for messing it up or if that was that other person who messed it up but what you do know is that you can't fix it in 26 minutes of saying nothing.
somewhere in you is this voice saying that maybe you should speak up. that speaking up would fix it, but there is a louder voice saying, 'shut up, you stupid fool. talking will only break it more. plus, you're paranoid. it's not broken at all in the first place.' so you just sit there, huddled into a small ball trying not to listen to anything at all because the silence isn't as painful.
mostly, though, you are scared. because it feels like the things you thought were lies told to you by a nacissistic toolbox might actually be truths that you didn't want to be true. scared that maybe you made a really big fool of yourself. scared that maybe the clouds of depression you thought you had overcome were really just hanging out behind you and you forgot to check back there because you were so focused on moving forward that you didn't think to look back. you discover that for the brief moment you stopped moving, to huddle into the corner and just think, you discover that brief moment was all it really took for the cold foggy fingers to creep forward and tap you on the shoulder.
and all you want to do is run. run anywhere that might be safe. run anywhere that would be away from here but that isn't over there, where the hurt seems to be coming from.
so you promise yourself you're just going to wait..... you're going to put one foot in front of the other, block out the fears and the hurt, and just walk forward into the bleakness because its better than being overtaken by the depression.
so that's it then.

Recently Forbes magazine ranked Redding near the bottom of its list of Top Ten Trout Fishing Towns. BOY did we do a good job fooling them!
If fly fishermen really knew just how great the evening fish is just behind Rayley's Supermarket, they would move here in droves. I suppose if that were to happen, we would probably have crowds like State College Pa which is nearer to the top of the list.
Last night is a good example. After spending the day in the garden I was relaxing on the deck with a couple of gin and tonics, when it hit me. I had not been down to my favorite spot, here in town, for near six weeks. The evening temperature was about 85 and the caddis hatch was surely going to happen.
so:
*On the river by 6:15 (rod was already made up and hanging on it's hooks in the garage)
*River flows just over 6000 cfs so wading was easy.
*Fish on by 7:02 (camera info said this picture was taken at 7:10)
*Great photo of the trout (20" + or -) using the old serendipity method.
*Home for dinner before 8:00
Eat your hearts out guys! I will probably be doing the same thing all over again TONIGHT.
I was going to start acknowledging that it is spring and post less winter photos. Honest. I was. There are two things working against me. First of all I love winter. Second, I was in the Boston area last week and was caught in a snow storm the night before April Fools’ Day. So here it is, another snow photo. Maybe spring will come soon, even for me.

Spruce Grouse have been known as Fool Hens by many different North American cultures. They are slow to recognize people as potential enemies and will usually allow very close approach before flying off. However, the fact that they eat coniferous needles, the compounds of which render their flesh unappetizing, makes them less of a preferred target anyway. Perhaps they know this. The sigil of my house. When I took it out for a spin the last time, the ears were a little less pointy and people couldn't decide if it was a peep bunny or a kitty. Either works.
At some point after the last time it was out, Pete managed to trip me and I ended up caving in the head when I grabbed onto a wall for support. (It lives in the umbrella stand near the door, and I think we all know how Pete feels about doors.)
I took all the old paper mache off, and put in new lights, fixed the one ear that was really bad, straightened it all out, re-papered it and better than ever!
