Established in 1921, Capitol Reef National Park preserves the Waterpocket Fold, the impassible "reef" of the park's name. Here you can see just how impassible it is. The "Capitol" of its name comes from numerous rock formations that appeared to be shaped like the US Capitol, which for some reason I did not photograph.

I found a cardboard display for the movie "Crimson Tide" in back of a video store. It was 5 or 6 feet tall. I brought it home with me and converted into a promotional display for my comic book which I dubbed the Boom Boom Machine.

I held a series of three sessions at KPF NY demonstrating severals ways to transform a flat single sheet of paper into a complex form. I demonstrated folds that used both standard origami techniques (square paper, no cutting) and more modern approaches (laser-cut and -scored curves). The square forms date back to the Bauhaus movement and I was inspired by the work I did for Erik and Marty Demaine when choosing the shapes of the curved forms. Special thanks also to Alex Soijka who helped with the video.
