After breakfast we took a brisk 35 minute walk from our cottage to Mitchell's Fold. This stone circle is situated high in the Shropshire Hills with fantastic views of the Welsh border. It's said to date from approximately 2000-1400 BC. Originally consisting of thirty stones, only fourteen now survive. The tallest, pictured above, is nearly two metres.
There is a story that one of the stones is a petrified evil witch who was punished for milking a magic cow through a sieve. The people of Shropshire then set a circle of other stone's around her to prevent her from escaping.
Local folklore also suggests that King Arthur drew Excalibur from one of the stones here to become king of the Britain’s.
Spring and Autumn. Except, without the red leaves that would have made this painting really stand out.

I held a series of three sessions at KPF NY demonstrating severals ways to transform a flat single sheet of paper into a complex form. I demonstrated folds that used both standard origami techniques (square paper, no cutting) and more modern approaches (laser-cut and -scored curves). The square forms date back to the Bauhaus movement and I was inspired by the work I did for Erik and Marty Demaine when choosing the shapes of the curved forms. Special thanks also to Alex Soijka who helped with the video.
