I held a series of three sessions at KPF NY demonstrating severals ways to transform a flat single sheet of paper into a complex form. I demonstrated folds that used both standard origami techniques (square paper, no cutting) and more modern approaches (laser-cut and -scored curves). The square forms date back to the Bauhaus movement and I was inspired by the work I did for Erik and Marty Demaine when choosing the shapes of the curved forms. Special thanks also to Alex Soijka who helped with the video.

Nom : Ancient Dragon (Ancien Dragon)
Difficulté : 19/20
Nombre total d'étapes : 410
Papier utilisé : papier rouge métallisé 35x35 centimètres
Auteur du diagramme : Satoshi KAMIYA
Titre du livre : Works of Satoshi KAMIYA
Description :

Name: Ancient Dragon
Difficulty: 19/20
Total number of steps: 410
Paper used: metallized paper 13.8x13.8 inches
Diagram author: Satoshi KAMIYA
Book title: Works of Satoshi KAMIYA
Description:
There I made again the Satoshi's Ancient Dragon with a metallized red paper 13.8x13.8 inches. The only problem with this paper, unlike origamido paper, is that the folds on thick layers crackles the metallized layer and reveal the white support-layer.
As this is the third time I make it, I learn by doing and now I spend less and less time to make it: it took me 2 hours (two to three time less than the 2 above)

Towering at 8 1/2 feet, armoires like this can only be found in grand houses owned by wealthy hacienderos. Found in the main bedroom to store and keep neatly folded clothes and other valuables, the pediment crown of this Gothic Revival piece has bolection moldings decorated with beads and reels, bulbous finials at the corners, acanthus flanges, and topped by pierced foliated and flowering scrolls that overflow at the center with large bulbous campanilla or bellflowers and acanthus leaves they appear to be protuberating as they dangle from the crown. Cabinet doors and sides have confirming double lancet arches appliqued all around with bead and reel moldings, and at the spandrels are leafy rose flowers in deep relief and are exceptionally palpable. Similar bolection moldings below the doors frame the large keyholed drawer with iron bail pull, above a secret drawer disguised as a simple faschia, and the block feet supports. Inside are ample shelvings and a pair of smaller drawers. The crown, main carcase, and the bottom drawers can be detached for portability.

Macro photo of resin I shoved out of a mold (one I’d previously coated with colorful sparkly stuff) while the resin was still malleable and hand-sculpted into a wrinkled surface. Looking at it I honestly couldn’t tell if this was one of the photos I had been playing around with in photoshop express or if it was SOOC, because it looks very much like the straight shots except it’s more purple overall and has less contrast. I feel, however, that these alterations that resulted from pure exploration of PE with no intention of “correcting” the photo have, actually, made the photo truer to life. It looks more like outer space and also more like itself, and does so completely completely accidentally.
Complementing any space perfectly, bi fold doors are increasingly becoming the demand of every home and office. Manufactured with high quality, they are extremely easy to use and maintain.
I like the old Ben better than the new, more severe likeness.
Radney Foster tune excerpt
Now romance is just like money
You can always get more if you've got it
And let me tell you friends, Im a lot more
Handsome with a C note in my pocket
You see it takes folding money to get the deal done
Folding money to have a little fun
Folding money to pay a few bills
To take a girl dancing and cure a couple ills
Folding money, you need a little stash
Greenback dollars and cold hard cash
Save it for a rainy day or go away a little bit, son

Islands Fold artist and good friend Kinoko came up for a Pender island visit in July. She rode her bike all the way from Seattle, and was on route to Port Angeles. There was a lot of rain ahead, and she had to get back that day, because the crummy customs only let her in Canada for three days. She thinks it's because she wasn't wearing spandex.
