My curtain, the neighbors' roof.

I finally met them tonight! I've taken countless pictures of their roof, so it was nice to put faces to it. :) They had a lovely solstice party.

Left: Kodak Retina IIa, Right: Ansco Super Regent (made by Agfa, a re-badged Super Solinette).

I've had the Retina for a while now, but hardly used it because it's so awkward to hold. The door opens right where you would naturally grip it. The solution? Find one that opens downward! The Super Regent isn't a jewel of precision like the Retina, but it seems much more practical. Time will tell, I guess :-)

This fold in the thick metal runs along the middle of a massive silo at Murphy Ranch in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. Some have said that the structures were built by Nazi sympathizers in the 1930's but raided by U.S. authorities and abandoned soon thereafter.

Taken from Strike Valley Overlook in Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, U.S.A. My husband never recognizes the phrase "Waterpocket Fold" but if I say "Remember the place where God pulled out the REALLY BIG bulldozer to start grading for a superhighway?" he says "Oh yeah, that place."

"Help Stanford University scientists studying Alzheimer's, Huntington's, Parkinson's, and many cancers by simply running a piece of software on your computer.

The problems we are trying to solve require so many calculations, we ask people to donate their unused computer power to crunch some of the numbers.

In just 5 minutes ...

Add your computer to over 177,000 others around the world outputting 47,000 teraflops of computing power to form the world's largest distributed supercomputer."

"Folding@home is a distributed computing project, coordinated by Stanford, for disease research that simulates protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics.

The project uses the idle processing resources of thousands of personal computers owned by volunteers who have installed the software on their systems.

Its primary purpose is to determine the mechanisms of protein folding, which is the process by which proteins reach their final three-dimensional structure, and to examine the causes of protein misfolding. This is of significant academic interest with major implications for medical research into Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and many forms of cancer."

a 1:1 mockup of a faceted metal ceiling system. this 1.6m x 1.6m panel is fabricated entirely out of 1/16" thick stainless steel and weighs around 90 kilos. the module is comprised of 8 continuous folded strips, laser cut from flat sheets, welded together, with a metallic golden lacquer finish. the primary structural ribs are laser cut following the angles of the folded facets providing a seem for welding the strips together, with 16 sub-frames for lateral stability.
