Interesting folds in the rock on Llangrannog beach. To give scale the image is about two persons high I guess
I saw this on an Arts show on TV.
Made from an old paperback, cover removed, each page folded lengthways towards spine, glued to backing board and framed!
Very easy to make and the result is really interesting! Can be folded lots of different ways for different effects. Picture books work well too.
Great way to recycle old books!
Withnell Fold is a village off the beaten track. It's partial obscurity is due to not being on a 'through road'. It takes it's name from the nearby farm of Withnell Fold which has a date stone of 1736. However the building of the village wasn't started until 1843/44 to house mill workers. The building of a 'Paper Mill' was started by Thomas Blinkhorn Parke in 1843 and the first paper was produced in 1844.
The last time i came here was in 1995...i just about remembered where the turn-off was...great little scenic place...no pub there though...i was on my way to Brinscall after this so popped in The Dressers Arms on the way there...nice pub too...
I just learnt Iris Folding card, this sail boat is my first try, it's quite fun and special.

One of the classes on the Sapphire Princess was napkin folding. We documented everything the instructor did using the camera, because it would be hard to remember these tricks later. This photo proudly shows that we passed the class.
The video explores the development of a parametric system to control a rigid folding facade.
The rigid folding modules were made with Tomohiro Tachi's 'Free Form Origami" software. The geometries were brought into Processing, and then organized within the Processing script to generate different kinetic sequences.
I used Satoru Sugihara's iGeo Library for the 3D interface, and ControlP5 library to control the geometries through the slider interface.
I will develop a physical kinetic prototype that utilizes an Arduino microcontroller for the kinetic movement.

Located 18 km north & west of Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada at a location where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains, one of the world's oldest, largest, and best preserved buffalo jumps can be found. Head-Smashed-In - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - has been used continuously by aboriginal peoples of the plains for nearly 6,000 years.
Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is an archaeological site known around the world as a remarkable testimony of the life of the Plains People through the millennia. The Jump bears witness to a method of hunting practiced by native people of the North American plains for nearly 6,000 years.
Due to their excellent understanding of the regional topography and bison behaviour, native people hunted bison by stampeding them over a precipice. They then carved up the carcasses and dragged the pieces to be butchered and processed in the butchering camp set up on the flats beyond the cliffs.
In 1981, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump as a World Heritage Site placing it among other world heritage monuments such as the Egyptian pyramids, Stonehenge and the Galapagos Islands. For more information on UNESCO, go to www.unesco.org.
This 360° panorama was stitched from 30 photographs with PTGUI Pro, processed with Color Efex, then touched up in Aperture.

Scientists have been making nanoparticles for more than two decades in two-dimensional sheets, three-dimensional crystals and random clusters. But they have never been able to get a sheet of nanoparticles to curve or fold into a complex three-dimensional structure. Now researchers from the University of Chicago, the University of Missouri and the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory have found a simple way to do exactly that.
The findings open the way for scientists to design membranes with tunable electrical, magnetic and mechanical properties that could be used in electronics and may even have implications for understanding biological systems. Read more »

Here’s a few foldy things for you.
Steps: Print, cut, fold, glue, enjoy. I think that’s more steps than setting up an iMac.
Even when printed as large as possible on 8 1/2 x 11 paper, these are fairly hard to deal with. Better would be 11 x 17. Bonus: printing on textured paper, or paper with some sort of design or adding a design to your image before printing results in a cool-looking object.
Cut them out using an xacto blade and a cutting mat. If you’re a masochist, you could try scissors. I’d at least suggest surgical scissors, big ‘ol craft scissors will likely drive you batty.
I still haven’t figured out the best glue to use. Wood glue works great if you can figure out a way to hold the pieces of paper together long enough to have the glue dry. Hot glue works, but is messy even when you do it perfectly, and you also have to hold the pieces together while the glue is steaming hot. Potentially painful. I’d almost suggest super glue, but I’ve never had luck with that stuff.
I’m picturing these as hanging objects in my studio apartment. I have a high ceiling that would be nice to fill with a few of these in different colors. If you think about the size of each little face though, even a poster sized print will only give me something like a 1′ object.
