Only my third attempt at focus stacking, this one took 14 images to make. It shows aphids on a plant that is producing a bud that is about to flower. Aphids are very interesting biologically because of their many symbioses, but also because some species have been doing the GMO thing for a few million years, having achieved the ability to synthesize carotenoids by lateral gene transfer from a fungus. They also engage in cloning, producing eggs by parthenogenesis. They are able to survive on plant sap because of an obligate endosymbiosis with a specialised bacterium. All in all, rather cool critters.
59 images taken with 50D and MP-E 65mm at 5x using 0.06mm steps with a Cognisys StackShot and stacked in Zerene Stacker. Lit with MT-24EX @ 1/16 with diffusion gels.
Focus stacking via photomerge in CS5. I used re-focusing rather focus plane micro movement. There are 7 photos in the stack. Finer focusing and using higher aperture would have been better. I used f5.6. Plus, I used the 24-105mm which is not a macro lens. See the next two photos for example of the original focus plane.
My experiment on focus stacking techniques.
Achieved this photo by combining 10 images shoot with 50 mm prime lens.

2022-116 Dragon Fruit - This is my first time having dragon fruit. After cutting it open, my palate started prepping for "kiwi" but it ended up tasting more like raw jicama to me. It wasn't sweet, so I'm not sure if we ate it too early. It felt soft to the touch. I can imagine this being refreshing on a hot summer day if it was chilled, though. I'm open to giving it another chance.

This my first attempt at focus stacking with the Laowa 65mm 2.8. It has been taken at full magnification 2:1 and I only used three exposures as a first attempt.
A beautiful Epidendrum species from Ecuador, I love the fringed (fimbriate) lip! Flowers are about 1.5 inches or 4 cm from tip of dorsal sepal to lip. Photographed in personal collection.
