FLUTTERING FLINGS

Can happen most any time

To meet was good she said to him

From the corner of the house

But he didn't want to be housed

In a corner

By someone he barely knew

Not old, though he wished she were

From his home

He wanted to fly

Again and again

Beyond the horizons

Vertically disengaging

For a fling

an aussie dragonfly ... graphic flutterer (Rhyothemis graphipyera) , i recently learnt these guys resemble the american halloween pennant (thanks to another flickr member for pointing that out) but actually i did a little research and although they are very similar in appearance, surprisingly it turns out that they aren't even related. The distribution on this dragonfly is limited to australia, the moluccas islands, new guinea, its surrounding islands and new caledonia.

Found this flutter resting on a cloths hanger, maybe tired of hovering .

This is a VINTAGE Japanese Houmongi. Houmongi are semi-formal kimono that can be worn by both married and unmarried women. They are characterized by artfully arranged patterns that flow seamlessly across the garment's seams. This kimono likely originates in the late Showa Period (1926-1989). It displays a cheerful pattern of flowers and fluttering butterflies on a gradated background. Golden threads woven into the fabric create a glittering effect around some of the patterned portions.

I have inspected this kimono in detail, and there are some faint spot on the exterior. Damages can be seen in the photos above. Overall, I would rate this kimono as being in excellent vintage condition. There are no tears, holes or seam separations. This garment is 100% silk.

MEASUREMENTS:

Length: 167cm

Arm Span: 137cm

Width Across Back: 63cm

Total Width of Skirt: 137cm

Sleeve Drop: 51.5cm

SIZING

If you are unsure of how to interpret the kimono's size it is important to know that the length (collar - hem) should be approximately 10cm longer to 10cm shorter than the wearer's overall height (longer is better). This is because the excess length will be folded up at the waist. Meanwhile, the skirt should wrap around the hips a full 1.5 times. The armspan should also reach wrist to wrist on the wearer. In this case, the kimono will ideally fit a woman about 157cm (5'2") - 177cm (5'10") tall, with hips about 91cm (36") around. There is some give and take in these measurements though.

" Our spent time flutters and tumbles imperceptibly towards our feet where it gathers like the fallen blossoms of a pear tree. We bear this invisible umbra at all times, occasionally kicking up a discarded petal, a memory, through which we can precisely experience the ‘mono no aware’ of our lives."

Beth and I spent the first night in the new house last night, and sitting in bed chatting about cats this morning this little guy started batting around the window!

No idea where he came from in the middle of winter! :s unless they have secretly been living in my empty house!!!
