If you must know, this one has been redone three times! Just drop more isopropyl alcohol to start all over.
I created this piece of art in April 2020 but I don't think I've ever shared it on my Flickr page.
I used an open cup acrylic pouring technique with the intention of creating a galaxy inspired piece of art. However, as is often the case with acrylic fluid art, you get a result completely different from what you expected! This piece ended up looking like a huge storm system on a gas giant planet. The colours I chose were primarily shades of blue and purple, so once dried I experimented with changing the colour balance on it to create some different effects. I created a sepia toned version and a black and white version, and both of those looked even more like a storm system on Jupiter!
Strobist info: two Canon Speedlite, one with a red gel aimed at a dark gray background paper sheet and one on the left with a small softbox. Another white paper sheet is also placed at the top right to add come reflection in the water thin film. Colors are slightly shifted in PP.
Fluid Art technique: a StopShot device with an electronic valve is used to produce the water drops with a very precise timing. Everything is frozen by the 1/30000s flash from the two Canon 580EX II Speedlite @ 1/64 or 1/128 power. Some thickener (Xanthan gum here) and surfactant (rince aid) is added into the water to produce amazingly shaped collisions. A lot of patience, practice and... luck is required as well: quite fun to do and sometimes frustrating :)

Lyrical abstract painted with watercolors on a liquid surface that disappeared a second later. My technique is related to the traditional Japanese "suminagashi monoprint" or floating ink technique, but I use a camera to capture the floating design instead of paper.
