All the trees, shrubs and plants in the surrounding area are covered in a blanket of white fluff (seed wool) from the Black Poplars growing on Ham Riverside Lands. It is incredibly soft and delicate but not great for hayfever sufferers.
In the heart of Gauteng, lies Dinokeng - 'a place of two rivers', where you will find the amazing KwaThabisile. Visit Ostrich Paradise, Lion Camp or Roodeplaat dam; go to Cullinan and enjoy a wonderful diamond tour or a relaxing game of golf; the Kollonade shopping centre is close by as is the gaming haven of the Carousel Casino. The old Thabisile farmhouse was originally built by Italian war prisoners and has since been converted into 3 self-catering units. In case you need any amenity, there are shops, a liquor store, butchery and petrol station just 2km away.

Redpolls survive harsh winters with an enlarged esophagus. This allows them to store and digest seed while they sleep during long, cold nights.

Cat did a macro of a Dandelion the other day which inspired me, given our road is over run with the things.
In order to prevent larger animals from stepping on their nests, Killdeer preform a display in order to grab the threat's attention and force them in a different direction. This display is slightly different from the well know "broken wing" display . The display for unaware, non-predatory animals such as horses and cows consists of the bird fluffing up, raising and opening its tail, and then charging at the potential threat.

I am trying to photograph other things but I just can't help myself, mum let me have a closer look this evening, still 8 intact thank goodness. For some reason I find it hard to get cygnets sharp.
In about 3 weeks these little fluffs will be able to go to their forever homes. I must say it's very hard to think of giving them back. I feel a deep sense of betrayal when I have to take them into the vets to be re-homed like I am abandoning them. This is the down side to being a foster mum. I am happy if they have homes to go to but when I walk into the vets 2 weeks after I have dropped a cat off and they are still there it breaks my heart. I struggle with this.

I saw this ball of fluff on the deck and wondered what it was as it wasnt there earlier in the day; it then it flew away.
It returned later in the afternoon and its one of the juvenile bluejays. It probably hasnt learnt that to stay cool in the ~90 F weather, a good start would to be in the shade with its buddies.
