Another shot in my Flower Fields series. Here I wanted to emphasize the amazing colors, and it was neat to see how his shirts blended in with the flowers.

The yellow wagon in the distance being pulled by a tractor is carrying tourists on a scenic ride round the flower fields in Carlsbad, CA. The fields closed early to the public last year due to the pandemic. They opened this year with safety measures in place including reduce admission, mandatory masks, and plexiglass partitions were installed between the seating rows in the wagon.

How do you tell the story of flower field workers who do hard, manual labor in an amazingly beautiful environment? Maybe through their eyes.

Happy Earth Day! To honor the occasion I wanted to post this abstract I created at the Carlsbad Flower Fields using intentional camera movement. One of the great gifts the Earth gives us is the amazing amount of color that surrounds us here, and this is my way of trying to capture and celebrate that.

At the Carlsbad, CA Flower Fields workers harvest bunches of flowers to be sold in the gift shop. The rest of the fields will be plowed under and the bulbs harvested to be sold around the world.

Our local flower fields serve as both a tourist attraction and a working farm reliant on hard, manual labor. Sometimes these two worlds intersect in a single frame.

Flower Field shots are fun to do on so many levels. There are of course the wide, expansive frames showing colors stretching clear to the horizon. But it is also neat to get down low and place the viewer in right in the middle of the blooms.

A line of field hands stretches across the horizon at the flower fields. The workers are harvesting cut flowers to be sold in gift shops. Most of the flowers will be used to produce seeds that will be sold around the world.
