In 2010, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) held a design competition for a flexible solution to replace portable buildings across the district, and HMC Architects accepted the challenge. The district asked us to ignore their standards and put an emphasis on an ideas-based approach. They wanted creative, progressive responses to their problem—not dressed-up modular buildings. We challenged the traditional box shape of the classroom by looking at how the room is used—and how it is currently under utilized. Although our design solution, which we named Flex, did not win the competition, our end product is a portable classroom solution that can used at any school, and we hope our design can inspire other school districts to think differently when it comes to portable classrooms.

The “Smart Flexibility: Advanced Materials and Technologies” exhibition is the result of the ongoing technological surveillance task of Materfad, the Materials Centre of Barcelona. Materfad seeks to explore the current capabilities provided by certain structures and materials to raise awareness and adapt architecture to its environment.
These contemporary works and projects associated with materials, sensitive systems and articulated mediums allow us to imagine the functionalities that can be made available, from smart and flexible architecture to a reactive garment.
The harvesting of wind and solar power, electrical and thermal energy generation, perception and adaptation to climatic conditions, to acoustics and the lighting environment, user detection and modification of the space according to a person’s body, movements or even emotions are the challenges of tomorrow’s spaces and are thus the guidelines of this exhibition.

Setting: Flexible
Story: Magic is everywhere, but only those with the gift can utilize it's true potential. Only the chosen few can utilize the guardian relics. No one knows what qualifies someone as the master of a guardian, but those lucky enough to be able to utilize these relics are either highly feared, or highly respected, depending on how they use their guardians. A guardian can only 'die' if their relic is destroyed, though if their master is defeated they return to the realm of the guardians until they are called upon once again. The Guardians are never good, nor are they evil. They simply follow the orders of their masters, and protect those who are able to call upon them. Ellina is one of the oldest of the guardians, and unlike most guardians she has a set of morals, but like most she is unable to disobey an order. She can try to fight the order as much as she likes, but unless she can convince the wielder of her relic to change their mind she will have to commit the command that is given. This woman is a very kind being, but a force to be reckoned with too. If she is paired with someone pure of heart she can be the kindest person one could ever dream of meeting, but if she is paired with someone who bares dark intentions she can easily become the most feared being known across the land.(WIP)

Samara runs training groups in person and also online classes in aerial, handstands and flexibility through her teaching company Cicada Circus Arts. She can also be hired to perform at events.

Update : These guys have just appeared on the TV talent show "Britain's Got Talent" and wowed the audience. They also got 3 yes's from the judges, even Simon Cowell was impressed and said he's never seen anything like it.
