Hatchment of the Earls of Sheffield of the nearby Sheffield Park.
This one for Abigail, only daughter of Lewis Way of Richmond, who married John, 1st Baron Sheffield in 1767.
She was his first wife and died 3 Apr 1793.
A Hatchment is a large, painted tablet, typically diamond-shaped, bearing the coat of arms of someone who has died. After hanging outside the family home for a period they were brought inside the church and displayed in their honour.
