CC Week 46 Utensils & Cutlery
I previously mentioned that I would be too embarrassed to show a picture of my cutlery drawer. However, for the sake of full disclosure I decided to go ahead and share a photo of it. There is plenty of flatware for dining, as well as tools for quick fixes around the house, and of course pens, markers and chapstick. And don't forget the gum! In case you are wondering, the orange, red and green colored flatware goes in my travel trailer. It ends up here after I wash it though. Thanks to George for this idea. His cutlery drawer is much neater than mine.
On a side note, I have always enjoyed seeing projects where someone takes photos of all the contents of someone's purse, or all the items of clothing a person owns. For us admittedly spoiled Americans it may appear that we have much too much stuff, which is no doubt very true. In addition to this drawer I also have a drawer full of kitchen knives, and one with utensils such as can openers, kitchen scissors, tongs, graters, etc.

MALACHI: *To himself.* “Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s hand. Who is the handsomest bear in the land? Of course it’s obvious that I am the handsomest bear of all. How co…”
MUTZLI: “Ahem!” *Clears throat.* “I have paws, Malachi, not hands!”
MALACHI: “Of course you have, Mutzli! I know that!”
MUTZLI: “Then why did you say, ‘hand’, Malachi?”
MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Mutzli! ‘Hand’ rhymes with ‘land’, whereas ‘paw’ does not!”
MUTZLI: *Non-plussed.* “No but ‘paw’ and ‘wall’ do… well almost…”
MALACHI: “What on earth do you mean, Mutzli?”
MUTZLI: “Well, you know, like ‘Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s paw. Who is the handsomest bear hanging on the wall’.”
MALACHI: “That makes no sense, Mutzli, especially as you do have the cheese knife in your paws!” *Shakes head.* “Now, please stop sharing your opinions and hold the cheese knife still. I can’t see my handsome reflection if you continue to fidget like that.”
MUTZLI: “But this cheese knife is rather heavy, Malachi!”
MALACHI: “Well, Mutzli, one has to suffer for beauty.”
MUTZLI: “I don’t see why I have to suffer for your beauty, Malachi.”
MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obv…”
DADDY: “Malachi! Mutzli! What on earth are you doing with my cheese knife?”
MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Daddy!” *Shakes head.* “I’m admiring my reflection.” *Preens.*
DADDY: “Indeed, Malachi. But I need to use that cheese knife. I have guests arriving shortly and I need it for the cheese platter”
MALACHI: “Well, that is a pity, Daddy.”
DADDY: “Why is that a pity, Malachi?”
MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Daddy! You will need to find an alternative knife. This one is presently engaged in the vital role of reflecting my beauty, and that trumps the needs of you and your luncheon guests!”
MUTZLI: *Sighs and shakes head.*
MALACHI: *To himself.* “Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s hand. Who is the handsomest bear in the land? Of course it’s obvious that I am the handsomest bear of all.”
DADDY: “Sighs and shakes head more.*
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 17th of November is "reflections in a knife". I thought I would add a little bit of humour and interest to my submission for the theme this week by using Malachi and Mutzli again after a long hiatus from this group.
If you follow my photostream, you may know that I collect 1:12 size miniatures, some of which have featured in past themes in the "Looking Close on Friday" and "Smile on Saturday" groups. This includes Malachi the bear, who today is joined by his cousin, Mutzli where the pair have appropriated one of my silver cheese knifes for their own purposes. I do hope that you like my choice, and that this photograph makes you smile!
Malachi I acquired in mid-March 2020 (and mid Coronavirus) from a wonderful Melbourne stalwart toy shop: Dafel Dolls and Bears, when I went looking for a present for one of my goddaughters. Malachi is designed by Mary and hand-made by Wendy Joy in Australia. He has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Malachi was the name he came with, written by hand on his little tag.
Mutzli was a lovely surprise gift from a dear friend in Britain who kindly slipped him into a parcel of other delightful gifts for me. Like Malachi, he is mohair, has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Mutzli got his name from the tiny gold tag around his neck. He is made by Mutzli, a Swiss bear manufacturer since 1949.
original version of the one cropped & turned for Macro Mondays
this was taken a year ago at a luncheon at The Hopkins Club
I liked the way the 2 glasses lined up together
I may take additional pics with these 2…not sure, but I think I just want another. :) it’s always fun to have the toys play with toys!
Please visit our folder of Spoons and Friends to see more fun with flatware!! There’s lots more where they came from, too. Lol
Hi everyone! If you haven't yet seen, checkout the previous post to view a link with the updates of the collaboration with two of my friends! Today I have a little post for you, with a product which can be found at the August round of Equal10 from Architect. The vase which comes in the McQueen collection. The item is made along with a Chester-draw cabinet, a side table,a mirror and astrology nick knacks. I wanted to team the vase up with some rich toned elements such as the spoon and fork with a faded brass finish, the smoked white stripe chair, the soft centred fabricated linen pendant.

The Measure Of Love..
A busy morning in the kitchen turned into an impromptu photoshoot. Karen was in full baking mode, preparing muffins and setting up everything for the process. As she tidied up, she placed a heart-shaped cookie cutter in a measuring cup, which instantly caught my eye. I couldn't resist capturing this charming, kitchen moment! It seems I'm easily distracted, but in the best way possible!

More and more single use plastic flatware is disappearing from the fast food universe and becoming more difficult to find. For the Smile on Saturday group, Topic: Spoon and Fork. Happy Saturday!

Obviously used, still wet from the shoot before, one light from the right, white reflector handheld from the left, the only small dark line left from the reflection above on granite kitchen countertop.

It’s a bit cliche, but I’ve been wanting to try a spoon reflection. I tried several different spoons and backgrounds and didn’t have much success. My flatware is 47 years old, and I discovered that every little smudge and scratch shows. So I went with imperfect. I will have to buy a shiny new spoon and try this again somtime.

Joy's Girl had her first art show and the Forks & Spoons were thrilled. They'd been waiting for months! lol
Happy new week, everyone!!
Sterling Silver..
A few weeks ago the weather was so bad; we had strong winds, lightening, thunder and torrential rain. The television was abuzz with constant "take shelter in case of sudden approaching severe weather." So there was no option of going anywhere. I was homebound.
So I decided it was time for a few cutlery shots. LOL so many object to photograph and yet I find silverware so fascinating.
I tried a few different lenses, bvut settled ont he 105 macro f2.8 with no ND filter. I staged several designs and configurations and finally came up with this shot.
I came up with the idea. to put them on the marble counter top near the edge, closed the shear curtains to diffuse the light, in an attempt to introduce as much grain as I could, even setting my shutter speed as low as the lens would allow.
In post I desaturated it to make it black and white and
then pulled the contrast and clarity sliders way down to soften the edges.

We Two Forks..
Another in the series of cutlery shots. LOL With all the natural and man made objects around us to photograph and yet I still find silverware so fascinating.
I came up with the idea to take two forks and place them close to a wall in order to cast a shadow, then moved my lights around till the shadow was in the perfect spot. Then in post I desaturated it to make it black and white and
then isolated the forks and pulled the contrast sliders down to soften the background.
Karen thinks they look like reindeer antlers. Lol perfect for the Christmas season.

Macro Mondays theme: A Spoonful
Clear liquid seemed the obvious choice to show off the image in the bowl of this tiny spoon. I'd like to pretend that the drunk turtle is climbing out of vodka, but I confess it is only water.
The spoon brooch was a promotional item issued by the defunct FINE ARTS STERLING SILVER COMPANY - Morgantown, PA. Founded in 1944, it was the sole distributor of six sterling flatware patterns made by the International Silver Company. This pattern, Processional, was introduced in 1947, the year I was born. The same size as a salt spoon, it is 2 3/8" long.

We kept the Pot roast we made on Saturday in our slow cooker overnight and had it again for lunch and dinner on Sunday.
For lunch, I put a portion of Beef roast, Baby carrots and Golden potatoes in a bowl and drizzled Beef gravy over top. And for dinner, I put a portion of cooked barley, Beef roast, Baby carrots, Golden potatoes and Peas in a bowl. Then ladled Beef broth over everything and ate it more like a soup.

A statue of "Abe the Eagle" made out of stainless steel flatware sits near the BNSF railroad bridge in downtown Prescott, Wisconsin. The statue is fashioned after a famous eagle that was taken into battle 37 times during the Civil War by 8th Infantry Wisconsin. The statue was designed by Dale Lewis.
