Ex-Loehmann's (1963–96)
Ex-Flatbush Gas Co. (1930)
19 Duryea Pl.
Flatbush, Brooklyn
Originally, this was a storefront for the Flatbush Gas Co. The famous Loehmann's discount clothing store was founded by Frieda Loehmann (1875–1962) nearby at Bedford and Sterling in Crown Heights (qv). Her son Charles (1894–1977) opened his own store in the Bronx and subsequently opened numerous branches, including this one opened after the death of his mother. Today the building houses a FEGS (Federation Employment & Guidance Service) psychiatric rehabilitation treatment center.
