I found out today that my camera can do a 15 second exposure, so I played around with a flashlight. oooo! must do this again!

SOFTlab produced a hanging installation for the entrance to School Nite, an exhibition of site-specific installations, performances, and discussions. The installation was curated by Nuit Blanche New York as part of Flash:Light 2011 along with the Festival of Ideas for the New City sponsored by the New Museum.

I made 3 of them for my parents and my brother. Easy and fun. I bought kits from a guy since I was short on time but if I make more I'll order the parts myself.
Because I was living in Egypt at the time, I always wanted to get photos that showed something other than standard tourist stuff. The relationship between the people of Egypt today and all of the temples and monuments of ancient Egypt seemed muddy to me. In this shot, all I did was pull the focus back to the flashlight in the tour guide's (AKA modern Egyptian) hand.
The boat in the image was one of those funeral boats that was supposed to take the spirit of the deceased, or his supplies, to wherever he was going in the afterlife. Hope that worked out for him.
I don't remember exactly where this was taken, but it may have been at Abu Simbel.
I have always enjoyed watching my cats chase themselves into a frenzy whenever a flashlight comes on. However, I've never had a dog that does the same thing - until now. The power went out for a few minutes so I grabbed a flashlight - and my Lindsay went nuts. It took nearly 20 minutes to wear her down enough to get her to sit and stay so I could snap this picture to commemorate the moment.
