Inspired by the master Eric Curry, I set out to test my light painting abilities tonight. What better a first object than my daughter's trike out in the driveway? I'm not an expert, but I have so many ideas floating around in my head about light painting and I can't forget the beauty of Eric's images. So here it is, my first light painting photo. I used an LED flashlight on the bike and used a red gel to light the inside of the basket. I masked each photo together in photoshop and then pocessed the image through topaz adjust. This is my collection of Jeff Hanko's Fantastic lights! A group shot including the 16x16 3D EX10, an older 10x1 D10 with a finely grooved head, 10x6 3D D10 from Jeff's first run since his return, A Jhanko/Steve Ku V10R with Veleno 18650 body, A one of a kind 10x10 3D LF2XT (My EDC), Another V10R with two 15mm extenders, A Jhanko/Steve Ku V10R with the Veleno 18500 body and yet another V10R! What a happy Family!
I was able to use the flashlight unmodified except for removal of the reflector (which messes up the nice illumination pattern from the LED). Here is my switch extension, mounted in an ABS pipe clean-out plug. The extension is a 0.5 inch dowel, turned down to 0.25 inch on the end to push on the flashlight switch. I glued on a retaining collar cut from tempered hardboard.
The flashlight is mounted to hardboard centering rings. The last ring is pinched between the tube and the end cap, keeping the flashlight at the right position.
Miniature flashlight that came with a package of Duracell AA batteries. Also doubles as a light pen when necessary.
Not sure if brightness and contrast levels are right. With my CRT monitor at home showing them all wrong I am never sure about brightness until I see images at work or print them.
This is a 30 second exposure. The Palm tree was "drawn" with a flashlight in the scene during the exposure. No Photoshop!
Hailey was just giddy with the flashlights... i was snapping away at her, with my mad low-light skillz, and her dad jumped in with some unspoken not-so-strobist help!

Here's what the thermos looked like before I started. As you can see, it doesn't look too much, just a low end Starbucks thermos. I actually found it abandoned at work one day, which is what gave me the impetus to actually start this project.
Seen here against my messy, messy desk and my fish tank. I didn't actually do the work here, but I just need the lighting for taking pictures.

We went in Fontainebleau forest for some experiences.
Jo (the guy on the picture) wanted to set a device with lasers, mirrors and smoke balls. Need I say more?
In the night, no flash for my camera... doesn't matter, I took the flashlight that allows me to get a perfectly black background.

Dans la nuit, sans flash pour mes appareils... pas de problème, je prends un torche qui me permet d'avoir un fond parfaitement noir.
