Playing around with fill flash in hotel in downtown Charleston for our Anniversary. Please give thoughts on which is best. Note which one the flash did not fire (which was by accident) and the subsequent results.

Toulouse - from my bedroom

Depuis ma chambre, mon premier éclair numérique, mon premier fichier raw, grâce à l'appareil de mon coloc....

From my bedroom, my first digital flash of lighting, my first raw file, thanks to my roommate camera...

Another of my favourite dresses. Combined with the hair and shoes, the dress felt very '20s (that's the 1920s!) so it had to be matched with nude stockings, not my usual black tights. Stick a feather in a head band on and I think I could have blended in a 20s Chicago jazz club

Lighting: Pixapro 200 pro camera left, in a softbox with grid and another Pixapro 200 pro overhead with a snoot. ETTL.

. . of the nine month journey . . . so to speak.

Well, here we are, in the last couple of weeks of our pregnancy, and the doc says everything's going as well as we can expect, with the possibility of an early delivery!

We've not wanted to bother you with our preggy pics until now, but we are in happy mode at the imminent arrival of our third.

So whilst we've left you alone, we didn't know which version to post - I like the main one, my wife prefers the version below.

Hope your weekend is going great.

Cerceris rybyensis ♀ (+ Lasioglossum calceatum ♀)

Ornate Tailed Digger Wasp .... in flight with a Halictid Bee as food for its larvae

Bienenjagende Knotenwespe ... fliegend mit einer Furchenbiene als Larvennahrung

Gravehveps ......... flyvende med en vejbi som føde til sine larver

Similar to the Bee Wolf (Philanthus triangulum) which catches Honey Bees, this much smaller solitary wasp is preying on little wild bees for provision of its larvae.

Bee identified by Bernhard Jacobi, thanks a lot!

Exposure time (= flash duration): 50 µs = 1/20.000 s

I bought this little orchid a couple decades ago, because it was described as "hardy and easy to care for" and it has lived up to its description. Just my sort. Genus Prosthecea, sometimes also known as the "octopus orchid", which seems appropriate, given its form.

LOOKING SEXY IN HIGH HEEL DRESS BOOTS

New camera flash and umbrella parts arrived. We tore open the box, set it up and grabbed a few impromptu shots. Older sister wandered off but Eeva sticks around so she gets the glory. She's also cute in her new favorite hat from Ireland.

Strobist info: New silver umbrella directly overhead using new swivel to mount on new stand. Sunpak 411 flash on 1/8th power.

Missy will soon chase Flash away from her while she goes off to give birth to the next generation ... I am very interested in watching the dynamics this year as Flash has travelled with Missy and her 2 twins that are now 2 year olds and possibly pregnant themselves ... could be a big family group joining together in late summer this year!

This is a composite of several pictures.

For info such as how I photographed this, strobist, step by step from start to finish:

Strobist:

Canon 5D Mark II

Canon 580ex II flash with a Lastolite softbox for speedlites.

I used a point and shoot camera (CanonA640) to shoot this BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE.

F=8 because Auto Focus is useless on these fellows. Now he's always in focus.

This proved that you don't need an expensive SLR for small bird flight shots.
