. . Another very infrequent visitor stopped by my dock on the Rapid River last week! I have only seen one other mink here in the past 10 years! This one was caught on my trail cam. Mink are a sign of a very healthy waterway, and near the top of the river food chain!
Sorry the trail cam shot had to be lightened up considerably, and that over exposed his eyes reflecting in the flash!

Recent Outdoor Flash shoot, edited using a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop CS6.
Single strobe, full power at around 105mm to give that shallow tunnel of light, triggered with pocket wizard.

Second attempt at off camera flash with 7d. Black background seems to be much harder than white and I had to play with the levels in Lightroom to avoid shadows. Two flashes - 430 EX II as fill flash at 3 o'oclock and one Yn 568 at 7 oclock and elevated. Had to hide the 7d pre flash as it was causing a reflection.
Spring is in the air, and so are the butterflies.
The little flutterers were flying around in a flash and flitter of coloured wings, like their lives depended on it. Which is probably actually the case.
It always make me wonder; What do Butterflies feel in their stomach when they fall in love?
This little guy took a short break.

I played with getting shots of the birds here that readily come to the hand for sunflower seeds. The Nuthatches and Chickadees are always enthusiastic participants. I put some seeds in the palm of my hand and tried to catch the birds on my finger tips. The built in flash on the camera worked best for this today. I extended my arm and used my 17- 85 mm lens. I posted shots of this Red-breasted Nuthatch and a Black-capped Chickadee this evening.

Had an unbelievably busy day today..... looking back at it I can't believe what I've managed to acheive. I will sleep well tonight! :)
Lighting: Metered for the dusk sky. 430EX handheld above my head with left arm. Fired by Canon ST-E2. Tweaked in Lightroom.
Looks kind of like I've cut myself out and stuck a background in there... which I haven't, obviously.
A few days ago I visited Sprotborough flash nature reserve and while I was sitting in a hide I noticed a huge bird across the water walk down from the field and into the reeds. I was amazed, and after a bit of research on various birding websites I came to the conclusion that it could be a migrating Crane...Imagine my surprise when I am told today that there is an Ostrich loose in the area and several people have seen it. Police are advising people not to approach it as they can be quite aggressive...No sign of it today though although a group of birdwatchers had seen it heading in the direction of The boat inn.
