This is a post to answer a question from a fellow Fickrer - SenorPep
He asked if a flash will work with a converted IR camera...the answer is yes...you have to adjust your f-stop/ISO/speed correctly and you will get some interesting shots...
Here is the same shot as the previous image but w/o flashes involved....notice the colors and skin have different textures....
These pictures were shot with a converted a100 to an IR 680nm filter…using a Minolta 35-70 f4 macro lens….flashes are Sigma DG 500 Super and DG 530 Super on the camera pointed away from the subject as the commander….ISO 200 – f4 – 1/80 – No - flashes…

I contemplated a friends only picture so I could be direct in the caption, but I decided against it. So you get the cryptic caption. Just...getting caught up in things I forgot about. And today I had a constant reminder. I'd even explain, but I don';t know that anyone else would understand. It's hard. From the outside it seems easy. It never is, really. I'm going to keep this to myself, I think. What a novel idea! Anyway.

250 WORD STATEMENT:
Flash of colour is my most recent completed project. After a recent trip to Tate Britain and Tate Modern, I drew ideas and influences from Karel Appel’s Hip Hip Hoorah! And Allen Jones’ to be or not to be. I’ve always been an admirer of neo-expressionism so I had no doubt of where this short weeklong project was going to take me. Jean-Michel Basquiat and Georg Baselitz also came into play with my research, their subliminal messages of social battles and illness seep through their use of clashing colours and painfully distorted figures.
Andrew Salgado was my main influence in terms of my technique. After countless YouTube videos and extensive research into his work, his unique, fresh way of paint application was nothing short of magical. Impasto through knives works beautifully to emphasise the curving surfaces of the anatomy. His use of flesh tones remind me of the overbearing corpulent figures of Jenny Saville, yet the blemishes of colour scream through Salgado’s paintings like they were part of the subjects skin tone. Photorealistic body parts give way to faded limbs, inviting explosive splashes of colour and shapes; stars, diamonds and numbers.
If I were to go back to this project, I would definitely distort the silhouette of the painted figure, adding many more layers of paint and perhaps tone down my use of colour. I think I focused on the skin tones too much and forgot to be free with my painting technique. The bigger the brush strokes the better!
Amazing ex-voto paintings in the Santuario della Consolata, Turin. The light was very low, flash wasn't allowed, hence the poor quality!

"A church at the site, stood adjacent to the ancient Roman walls of the city. It is held that in the fifth century, Bishop Maximus erected a church dedicated to St Andrew Apostle with a small chapel to the Virgin with an icon. The icon, however, became the object of great veneration. Legend sustains that a blind pilgrim in the 12th century had his vision restored by the icon of the Virgin in the church. Inside the church, ex votos document centuries of miracles attributed to the Virgin.
