me, 3rd grade "book report" on Sacagawea (family legend is that we're related -- on my dad's dad's side -- to Clark of Lewis & Clark fame)
My mom made the costume by dyeing a bed sheet and drawing on it with markers (I think. mom?). The belt is actually from Guatemala? And I love my awkward pose and the dirty white keds.
christmas 1971 in the living room.
how it has changed: same chairs, new upholstery.
off-white carpets replacing the gold shag
same table. string art lampshade replaced with something worse. no ash trays.
TREES HAVE GROWN! certainly no view of Seward Park anymore.
no madrona outside the window either.
i think that planter still exists somewhere but with a different plant in it, of course.
house & deck are stained a lighter tan.
all those north-facing single pane windows = energy suck!
windows are still the same today. they've looked into replacing them but it wouldn't be worth doing at this point as the next owner will likely gut the place (ouch) and remodel. good-bye mid-century architecture.
Her nick name is PINK, she was our last baby, our first girl. I don’t even like pink, but she LOVED it. I was nervous she had two older brothers; I thought she may be a tom boy, and she is but she also loves pink and jewels and sparkly things, and baby dolls, oh she loves her baby dolls even still. She always had a dirty face, she always had owies, she carried her big pink handmade blanket everywhere and sucked her fingers and she fell asleep in the strangest places. The years have gone really too fast.

This was a research trip (seeing planes and researching the Air Museum's archives). If you want to see these 8th grader's superb National History Day presentation at the state competitions go to: youtu.be/ffwaGCXilOU

This is a fly I would never leave home without... I first discovered this attractor pattern from an article i had read in the Fly Fisherman (Dec 96) issue. This was from Dave Lambroughtons '5 world class flies' article... The recipe for this was vague, but the article provided enough information necessary to make this fly. No particular hook was specified, so i will leave that to your discretion. Below is the recipe which i taylored to the success of tying this fly.

Forgive me for having a flashback to last christmas. I liked this small candle of bee wax very much. I liked it so much that I didn't light it until today. Well, here it is...

1965 Plymouth Belvedere II altered wheelbase (or A/FX) car. The rear axle of the car is moved forward on the body to increase the weight transfer during hard acceleration. Because the center of gravity is just in front of the rear axle, these cars would leave the starting line with the front wheels raised high in the air.
I was experimenting with using an overly small aperture setting to intentionally introduce image diffraction. In this shot, the goal was to make the gold lettering on the side the focal point while blurring the rest of the car to illustrate rapid movement. Of the shots taken, this was the only one that came close to achieving that goal. Sometimes, I just have to play with the buttons and dials to see what happens. Shot 1/50th @ F/14. The only editing was a slight contrast adjustment.
