Musk Lorikeet (Glossopsitta concinna)
With gentle soaking rain falling we are on a 'wet day timetable' today - isn't that fun when the kids are on school holidays!
So some images from the files today.
Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis)
One from this day last year when one of the Hobbies sat a while on out TV antenna.
Australasian Gannet (Morus serrator)
A look back to this day in 2018.
I don't often see Gannets so thought I would post this image.
A flashback to last December when there was less rain and more sunshine. We've had a very rainy week here in Pittsburgh and the forecast looks rough for tomorrow's cars and coffee as well.

Going through my archive back to my first trip to Australia in 2011, this is sunrise at Port Douglas Northern Queensland.
Heading to Ottawa for a wedding this weekend so he's a flashback to the Canadian Rockies and Moraine Lake. Hard to beat the majesty of that place!

I haven't seen many butterflies so far this Spring. Perhaps because it has been quite cool.
I haven’t posted a photo of a flower in months. Flowers are pretty scarce right now, so it’s time for me to post one. This one was taken just after sunrise in early July 2025.
The photo features a shallow depth of field, which brings the pink cosmos flower into clear focus while the background melts into a soft, blurry bokeh. The addition of a budding flower next to the fully opened bloom illustrates the flower's life cycle, and I think the subtle touches of the yellow flowers in the background contribute a lovely element to the image too.

Not much to shoot these days in my part of the world, so I thought I would do a puffin flashback. Puffins always make me feel better.
Marybeth having a flashback to when the kids were young! As seen in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cy Twombly exhibit.
Nearly two years ago, I got my first taste of York Rail and more specifically, their last operational CF7. Here, paired with GP15 #1531, the duo heads for the small yard in York where they interchange with NS.
Since the Hoosac tunnel detour trains earlier this year, daylight Pan Am trains on the NECR are a rare. After hearing the district 3 dispatcher tell a track Forman that a southbound train would be coming out of Bellows Falls later in the day, I got off work and headed to Bellows. Getting there just in time to see BFED poke it’s head end out of the tunnel where everyone’s favorite local fire chief Shaun McGinnis. I followed the train south and despite the clouds got sun in every spot such as here as painted B40 #5968 leading a blob B40 and it’s loaded slurry train into town. Back to before the diamond celebration emerged, Minnie would always look amazing against those pinks and blues behind her.
Four decades ago, you never knew what you might find at Union Pacific’s North Yard in Salt Lake City. On this fine July 25, 1978 evening we see a GP20, three GP9s, four SW9s, four NW2s, and a DD35. Note the accumulation of diesel fuel mixed with sand along the yard tracks, something you don’t see anymore.
