Delano has a series of screen prints of flash from a whole line up of tattoo artists. They are awesome. Oh, and that's Bob Shaw up top.
Here's a couple of experiments I was trying out with a backflash on my hand...interesting effects...now for a much more powerful flash unit!
Tungsten WB, off camera 430EX with orange filter, 8 sec, canon 350D with peleng 8mm. The flash was poped manualy. Post process is curves, crop and dodge/burn.

I found this whilst meandering through google's maps. Any idea what the flash in the middle might be? Look at the full size to see it properly.

Feeding Peaches treats the hard way.
Also compensating for horrible gelled flash on this one. Bad choice.

Use of the 3 cell Graflex flash fills in the shadows 20' away. It's a powerful beast and produces a 1940's feel. The old press guys used flashbulbs a lot outdoors and indoors. The shallow depth of field is typical of the 1942 Ektar lens
I made this cable with a switch to trigger the flash on my disposable camera manually. I put a 1/8 in plug on my sound activated circuit, too, so I can plug either into the camera.
My first experience using a strobe/flash in a studio setting... really my first experience using anything other than an on camera flash. This photo was taken during the Indy Photo Coach "Beyond the Fundamentals" class. Great class to help push you out of your comfort zone!
I managed to surprise Argent with the flash. Actually, I managed to surprise myself - I'm still getting used to the new camera.

These are not frames from a movie, but 8 attempts to photograph my 7-month old boy with a flash. I haven't used a direct flash to photograph him in the first months of his life and am assuming his eyes (and brain!) can cope now, here's the result.
So it's dinner time for Mobias, and I want to photograph him. He's very aware of cameras already, so posing is no problem often.
As you can see in the first two photos, it's rather dark (around 18:30) at the table, so I figure I can fill flash to lighten up his face just a bit. I'm trying this more often and keep on disliking it. Built-in Flash is set at -3.0
As soon as the "AF-assist illuminator" light of the D3100 hits his face, he squints his eyes thinking 'what on earth?', and the following flash just captures his reaction to the annoying mini torchlight (no, not to the food).
At photo 8 he just turns his head away and at 9 I just had enough of it. Next time I'll remember to use a bent piece of paper and bounce the flash towards the ceiling which gives amazing results most of the time.
The original photos are slightly darker, I moved the white point inward a bit with Adobe® Photoshop© Levels.
