i forgot to hook up the flash on my sx-70 before taking this picture. as a result the shutter stayed open for a long time (this was indoors at night) and created this crazy picture. in hindsight, i don't mind and like the result.

Sorry for the strange file name, that's what I saved it as and I can't think of anything else.
ANYWAY. Why have I never used a flash gun properly before?! I was doing some multiple flash work, which didn't go to well, because I couldn't be bothered to use a tripod, and it wasn't as dark as I'd have liked it to be. But I got bored of multiple flash half way through and I thought this looked REALLY pretty. Plus we've had a bit of a self portrait over load lately. So heres something that.. Isn't me.
Anyway, so I'm currently using a flash gun that my grandad used to use. It is sort of weird using a flash gun thats OLDER than I am. But I'll live. It sucks cos I can't connect it in properly otherwise you only get the one flash and the built in flash still tries to pop up as well. Ah well. Hopefully someone will buy me a more up to date one at some point.
EXPECT ALICE IN WONDERLAND WORK NEXT WEEK. I HOPE.
Edited, levels, curves and sharpened.

This is light for men. Not that you can't shoot a woman this way, but generally you're going to bathe women in light. Smoothing out their skin and putting their beauty on display is almost always a good idea. Men are a bit different though. A man's body is utilitarian. It's from going from point A to point B. Often their face is built using the same principles. Thus, we can put a ton on shadow on one side of the face and it's not a throwaway frame. It may even give off that mysterious debonair look that I've been failing at for over twenty years.

Circuit that I used to measure the flash duration of the microsecond flash. Saturation of the photodiode must be avoided, it helps to bounce the flash off of a closeby white wall.
Don't you just love my handwriting?
A BPX61 photodiode is used which does have the peak sensitivity well into the IR characteristic of silicon detectors. The 50ohm terminator is not required if the scope has a 50-ohm input impedance setting (mine does not). Also important to make sure that your choice of resistor is still primarily resistive at frequency so no wire wound resistors!
