Ringflash at some distance plus a 22" beauty dish behind. There was no real point to this setup, and honestly there "might have been" some alcohol involved, lol.

Achieved the so called "impossible" with my flash, which is a Canon 430EX. It is said that one cannot use this flash off the camera without a "master", which in the case of Canon would be a 580EX II for nearly $500 or a PocketWizard for about $250.. I wanted neither, I wanted a penney cheap solution.. I got one! Here are the details, in case you are stuck like I was.
This shot was created using the 430EX in my left hand, connected to my camera via a 3.6M /10 FEET E-TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord, which has a windy cord that reaches 10 feet away. I was not 10 feet here since this was my test shot to see if it works! The system can be found here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003GR6IUK/ref=oss_product for $28.
I also added a softbox to my flash, which allows it to spread the light nicer: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038QS2NU/ref=oss_product this is the medium size for $15.
This picture was taken with Canon 5D Mark II and EF 50mm f/1.4 at f/11 with ISO100 and shutter speed 1/60. The flash was in manual mode at 1/2 but this was enough to override the faint natural light coming into the room, so it appears as if I took this picture in the dark but actually I did not. =)
I left this picture larger size than my normal for flickr so you can see the details, which are really clear and sharp in this shot. I did not enhance the shot, only cropped in a bit and sharpened for print.
I am very happy with this solution. I also purchased a cheap equivalent to the PocketWizard, yet to arrive and be tested.. I will report on that once I receive it.
Tungsten WB, off camera 430EX with orange filter, 8 sec, canon 350D with peleng 8mm. The flash was poped manualy. Post process is curves, crop and dodge/burn.

Selwyn pointing out his new 40d. Bounce flash off of a concrete wall, it cast a yellow-ish hue to Selwyn, so a little white-balance was necessary. Nikon speedlight sb-24, i believe at 1/2 power. Metered for the sky.

The three layers at the bottom were glued together. Place some books atop the three layers to hold them flat until the glue dries.
Score one side of areas to be folded with a knife prior to folding.

This morning I started a little 'how to' study to use the flash available on the reflex. After the reading of books and sites I photographed some objects around the house.
The best shot is this ore where the use of flash allowed me to color in blu the shade of kitchen'sgear.
They have the flying skate board thing.
He also has a Mongo outfit figure. I think this outfit looks better.
He has a speeder bike looking vehicle in this line too. Sold separately. I have it some where.
Obento! Let's see.. I surrounded the sushi rice with raw mushrooms and blanched carrots, the sausage octopuses have a tomato on their heads and nori for eyes/mouth. They are sitting on top of a bed of tamagoyaki. Next to that is tempura mushrooms, long beans and capsicum (red and green)
I managed to surprise Argent with the flash. Actually, I managed to surprise myself - I'm still getting used to the new camera.
