Flame Nebula and the Horsehead Nebula, as seen from the Mojave Desert

Nikkor N.C 28mm/f2.0

For all the craziness going on this world this year. The uprising in Middle East, war in Libya and the natural disaster in Japan (+ nuclear disaster) and NZ. Light a flame of hope for a better tomorrow for everyone affected by them.

Please see my website for this and other photographs as cool greeting cards - www.fuzzchops.com - thanks!!

The sound of sirens kept us awake tonight as a new building went up in flames just round the corner to us. I photographed this at appx 2am.

This candle is actually a light tan but when I got close enough for a good macro shot...without melting my camera lens...it showed up as a deep orange.

I've been meaning to try a fireball shot for a while but never quite got round to it. Well, today I finally did!

I think I was a bit heavy handed with the fuel, so the flame took a while to burn down to a size that would fit in the frame. You live and learn. Once all the fuel had burned off, the ball survived to fight another day.

The ball is held up from behind by a skewer that goes through the black paper background (which is far enough away not to catch light).

A ghostly candle flame, hypnotically floating in front of you.

Lucky the candle holder was close by, the power was out all night.

Since January 1st 2010, I have been taking and uploading one square picture each day to:

I'd always wanted to try the igniting match photo. Today was the day. It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I didn't burn anything, which was nice. I actually got a good photo on my first try, but of course I couldn't stop there. I found the faster shutter speed gave a better effect on the match head. Clamp, focus, strike, click (click-click-click-click-click)!

Christmas Eve Candles. [December 24, 2016]

Taken during the Nagarjuna sagar trip. Roadside fireplace.

Inspired by a recent post on the DIYPhotography blog.

Shot with manual 80-200mm zoom in "macro" mode. Will experiment with other lens choices on the next go-around. My cheap tripod isn't as solid as one might like when a heavy zoom lens is involved.

So this is Christmas

And what have you done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear ones

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas (War is over)

For weak and for strong (If you want it)

For rich and the poor ones (War is over)

The world is so wrong (Now)

And so Happy Christmas (War is over)

For black and for white (If you want it)

For yellow and red ones (War is over)

Let's stop all the fight (Now)

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

So this is Christmas (War is over)

And what have we done (If you want it)

Another year over (War is over)

And a new one just begun (Now)

And so Happy Christmas (War is over)

We hope you have fun (If you want it)

The near and the dear one (War is over)

The old and the young (Now)

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

War is over if you want it

War is over now

Love Is A Fire: Burns Down All That It Sees, Burns Down Everything.. Everything You Think, Burns Down...

—Self-Immolation Never Looked So Good

As we did with the math notes before, we helped the daughter and her friend burn their chemistry notes and books. the final was yesterday, and the long nightmare of that class is finally over.

I like fire.
