Sydney | NSW | Australia
Digging through the archives, I recently found this photo from over a decade ago of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. What struck me the most is that a single flag - the Australian flag - flies proudly atop said bridge. To a foreigner, this might seem like an odd thing to point out. The explanation is that now, multiple flags fly. I long for the time when Australia was united under a single flag, and for the time when the quality of one's character meant more than the makeup of one's ethnicity and/or sexuality.
On this day - April 25th - Australia remembers the ANZACs (the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) who bravely fought and risked their own lives - indeed sacrificed their own lives - so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. The Australian flag represents every single Australian no matter what their background or identity, and is the flag that Aussie ANZACs courageously fought under. Lest We Forget.
The Homeland Methodist Church was built in 1887 across the street from its present location in Homeland Heritage Park, Homeland, FL. All the original structures are dedicated to preserving pioneer life in Florida's earliest settlement. The American Flag flying beside this historic pioneer church reminds us that the flag has survived battles, inspired emotional songs, and evolved as our country has grown.

Known as "Connecticut's Valley Forge", Putnam Memorial State Park preserves the site that Continental Army Major General Israel Putnam chose as the winter encampment for his men during the winter of 1778/79 during the American Revolutionary War.

Benjamin's hockey team was in provincials this year, and they asked Lane and Hazel to be the flag bearers at their home game. This team has been incredibly kind to us, and to Benjamin, who was #23. They hang his jersey above their bench every game, and they ordered stickers with his jersey and name on them for their helmets. They had a tribute to Benjamin, which was announced at the beginning of their provincial game, and they've ordered hoodies which have a salute to Benjamin on the back too. Some days it is easy to think that our family is the only one affected by Benjamin's death, but this is not the case, and this hockey team has demonstrated how much he is remembered, and has done so in such a gracious way. It is very heartening.

A well-timed gust of wind gave the huge American Flag alongside the tracks a good flex as Reading & Northern 2102 worked its way out of Hamburg.

After putting this 48 star American flag away for safe keeping during my last move 12 years ago, I couldn't find where I put it. I knew I had it stored in a mason jar and I finally found it today. It could use a good washing. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want the red color to run.
Happy Independence day to my fellow Americans and to my friends over our borders I hope you share in our freedoms.
See you again Sunday - will try to comment if I have time on Friday or Staurday
