The red of the Turkish flag stands out against the deep blue sky above Kusadasi.

Today (6/14) is Flag Day. Here's a flag photo I took yesterday at the base of the Washington Monument in Washington, DC.

This photo was featured in the DCist blog.

Flying the Colors of the United States in honor of the United States Flag being first adopted by Congress 240 years ago today, on June 14, 1777.

The resolution read,

Resolved that the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white: that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

The version hung today is the 49 star flag, which was our nation's flag from July 4, 1959 to July 3, 1960. following the admission of Alaska to the union but before the admission of Hawaii.

Master Sgt. Santiago Perales, along with six other Soldiers, holds campaign streamers before placing them on the Army Flag during the Army Birthday ceremony at West Point, June 16. I enjoy flickr for so many reasons. One of them is about the people here. We make friends and continue to get to know them through their photos.

I've already expressed that I hope I can influence my grandaughter's appreciation of Nature.

This flag flies at our camp. Katherine looks at it and in her tiny, 2 year old voice, says,"That's Old Glory, My flag!"

I am a very patriotic person. I place my hand on my heart during our national anthem ,I get goosebumps when I listen to marching bands playng John Phillip Sousa marches, and I'm teaching my grandaughter NOT to take her great country for granted!

It's hard to see exactly how far this stretches on beyond the camera, but the field was covered with the Color Gaurd doing this.

Emory University in Georgia has a close relationship with the Tibetan community. They are part of an education exchange that allows monks to study at the university and students to study Buddhism. As a result, they often host events centered around the culture of Buddhism and Tibet. During one such event, the campus had been decorated with Tibetan Buddhist prayer flags. Their colors waving against the campus lawn caught my eye and I had to capture it. I was standing on the upper floor of the museum on campus looking out of the window when I captured this image.

This image was taken in JPG using only the settings in my camera, there was no post-processing or editing.

Surprisingly difficult to capture the flag in the wind!

the barbados national flag - a small version I held, waited for a good gust and snapped, happy independence

This gigantic flag is displayed on the courthouse several times a year at certain holidays. It has been up since July 4th, I snapped a picture before it was taken down yesterday.
