The national flag of Brazil flies above Somerset House as the delegation of Rio 2016 hosts a reception.
The flag design was the work of Raimundo Teixeira Mendes, with the collaboration of Miguel Lemos, Manuel Pereira Reis and Décio Villares. The green field and the yellow rhombus from the second Empire of Brazil were perserved. A blue circle with 27 white five-pointed stars replaced the arms of the Empire of Brazil. The stars, whose position in the flag reflect the sky over Rio de Janeiro on November 15, 1889, represent the union's federated units – each star representing a specific state. The motto "Ordem e Progresso" ("Order and Progress") is inspired by Auguste Comte's motto of positivism: "L’amour pour principe et l’ordre pour base; le progrès pour but" ("Love as a principle and order as the basis; progress as the goal").
The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is located in London, England. It is commonly called the Houses of Parliament after the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two legislative chambers which occupy the building.
The Palace of Westminster has three main towers. The largest and tallest is the 98.5-metre (323 ft) Victoria Tower, which occupies the south-western corner of the palace (here with the Union Flag)
At the north end of the palace is the Elizabeth Tower, commonly known as Big Ben. At 96 metres (315 ft) it is only slightly shorter than the Victoria Tower, but much slimmer.It was called the Clock Tower until 2012, when it was renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
The shortest of the palace's three principal towers (at 91 metres (299 ft), the octagonal Central Tower stands over the middle of the building, immediately above the Central Lobby.
I have been watching the first two stages of the Tour de France through Yorkshire (on the television) and the turn out was fantastic (about 2.5 million people) and Yorkshire was showcased magnificently. I have decided to watch it here in London tomorrow as my sister Hester watched in West Tanfield and had a fantastic time.
I felt quite patriotic watching all the Union Jacks and even though Great Britain is out of the Wimbledon tennis and well out of the World Cup it is good to feel like this once in a while!

The stars and stripes give a touch of patriotism to these tall windows. Even if the windows are featured on the condemned Goncho apartments in Washington, Iowa. Two dozen people were evacuated from the building on January 17, 2013, because toxic methamphetamine chemicals were discovered throughout. Sadly, some are now referring to the rural community as Methington, Iowa.

I haven't been getting much exercise since leaving college, so I occasionally take walks. When I lived in LaVergne, TN, I used to walk from the subdivision where I lived to the lake nearby. Along the way, I found this flag flying in the middle of someone's yard. I always intended to leave an 8x10 print of it on their doorstep, but I moved before ever doing so.
We recently installed this flagpole on the ministry property south of Tecate, Mexico. We bought the pole at the San Diego County Fair. It is telescoping in three sections. It's very well made.
