This is a shot of some flags flying above the city of Grenoble. I like the way the alps are in the background etc.
I have two panoramas left to put together and post before I am done with Europe photos for now. I will probably come back in a few months when things are dry and re-edit some more then.
The Lindsay name Is of Norman origin, from De Limesay, and first appeared in 12th century.
The flag seen here flies over the Norman Hedingham Castle, which dates from around 1140, and is owned by the Lindsays, in the County of Essex.
The Lindsays are direct descendants of the de Veres, one the longest and most illustrious line of nobles of England, and the star on the family standard dates from the First Crusade of 1098. During the Battle of Antioch, with night falling a brilliant star appeared on the standard being carried by Earl Aubrey de Vere. The battlefield was illuminated, victory was won, and the de Veres carried the star as their emblem ever since.

These flags are flying outside our local casino. I think the third flag is for the Province of Ontario, but I'm not sure. Maybe the casino has their OWN flag!
As I travel about the United States I frequently see one of the various Confederate Flags displayed. They are seen often in the South, but I've also spotted Confederate flags in such diverse places as New York, Michigan, California, and even in other countries of the world.
The attractive display pictured here caught my attention so I stopped and took a picture. The flags are flying over Triple M Farm in the tiny unincorporated community of Brockdell, in Bledsoe County, on Tennessee's beautiful Cumberland Plateau.
The Flags are, left to right: Tennessee, United States, U.S. Army, and Confederate.
"Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean region.
In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites.
The prosperity of the city was historically based on maritime trade. As the capital of the maritime Republic of Ragusa, it achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries, as it became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy.
After the break-up of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s Dubrovnik was besieged by Serbian and Montenegrin soldiers of the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) for seven months and suffered significant damage from shelling. After repair and restoration work in the 1990s and early 2000s, Dubrovnik re-emerged as one of the top tourist destinations in the Mediterranean."

This flag appears to have been lowered a little in this image - not quite half-mast, yet not quite full-mast either. The image looks south from Dundas Street on University, towards the lake.
The flag is at half mast as a respect for two people who drowned at the Llanberis waterfall on Sunday morning.
Close-up of large American flag flapping in the breeze in Riverside Park at La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA. Taken with the sun in front of me, shining through the flag for a different play on the light.
I took this photo in the Singapore Air Show 2008. These are the countries which participated in the exhibition. Uploaded By: Flishr
Norway and Sweden were united until 1905, and the combination of colors from the Norwegian and Swedish flag placed in the canton was offically called the Union Mark but often referred to a "herring salad." antique flag
