I removed the focus ring and cleaned the front lens element according to instructions for Agfa reconditioning passed on by Bill Bresler. Well, more or less; I used WD-40 to loosen the lens element, and pliers to remove it. Instead of acetone (cancer, anyone?) I used rubbing alcohol to clean the offending lens element. The rest of the pieces look squeaky clean, and this relatively minor operation will make the camera usable again.

You can't tell from either angle I photographed, but there are 20 units in here (or at least there were 20 units 20 years ago, but maybe a recent remodel combined some of the smaller ones), including some really weird studios that weren't totally unlike a barely-big-enough-for-a-human version of where Tom Kitten tumbled onto Samuel Whiskers' bed in the Tale of the Roly-Poly Dumpling. Most of the units aren't visible from these angles which obscure the additions and lean-to structures in the back. The cheapest units back then were $150/month. I wonder what they'd fetch today.
From this angle, you can see only two utility meters, but I know there were 20 units in there. I toured through six or seven of them in 2002 when I helped a friend shop for a temporary living situation in Klamath Falls. Definitely one of the strangest apartment-hunting situations ever. He settled on the main floor flat to the left of the front door. One of the most spacious, comfortable, and nicest (even if rather musty and frozen in the Nixon-era in terms of the furnishings and amenities) for $325/month.
On Zillow, it says this was listed as a 15-bed/8-bath property which sold for $400,000 in December of 2021. The marketing blurb on the MLS listing said "GREAT INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY to the right person willing to polish up this Gem. Was Originally boarding house.. Home currently brings in $2200 per month rent. Home has three stories plus a basement. The main floor has a Bedrooms and 1 bath , 2nd floor has 4 bedrooms 1 bath and 3rd floor has 2 bedroom 1 bath and office . Basement has 1 Bedroom and a shop as well as another bathroom which has not been used . 2nd house has 5 bedrooms ,kitchen, living room sitting area and 1.5 baths . 3rd and 4th house are not being used and would need work but are 1bed 1 bath and the other is studio all plumbed for bathrooms. This is a beautiful property with wonderful fruit trees such as Plumbs, peaches and apples." [sic]
Since that sale, the blue paint and the charcoal gray paint and white trim is all new. The yellow and red trim on that dormer up there remains from the previous paint job. In 2002, it was a very drab gray.
this was the day after we finished. there's a rug that matches the wall color and the shower curtain (thanks restoration hardware) and there's a yellow tissue box and some lavender on top of the toilet now too.
Willamina, Oregon
This house still has a for sale sign in front, but the realty company has no website, and only an archived listing could be found asking $280,000 for this home plus the six-plex apartments (an old motel?) out back. The home appears to be unlivable. A straight-ahead view of the front door shows the frame sloping severely to the right. Things looked disheveled inside, but the apartments seem to be fully rented. The property is zoned commercial, and one old listing hints that his would be a great location for a gas station because the town of Willamina no longer has such a business.
...this is the kind of stuff I do when I can't be on the computer during bad weather.
We had tornados this morning...and all the kids at the school had to take cover. Scary as hell! Painting was calming though & I've been meaning to do it for years.
:o)
The top will have glitter & be sealed with resin. This will go back into my craft room when done...but might be too pretty to work on!

Well here it is. My "New to me" Bike. For the last few weeks I have been looking for a road bike on craigs list and at rummage sales. I wanted a project bike. Something to fix up a little bit and see if I will really get into biking like I think I might.
I happened upon this little guy today at a rummage sale is Elm Grove, $10 . Excuse my language but it looked like shit when I saw it, rode like shit. Overall I came to the conclusion that it was shit. I contemplated the $10 and thought "Hell why not". I wanted a fixer upper anyway. I bought it, took it home, looked it over. Saw it needed a major cleaning. The chain, crank, rear cassette, and front hub were all gummed up. I went to REI and picked up some bike degreaser , new brake pads and a small bike multi tool. I got home and cleaned it up, installed the new brake pads, then realized the rear tire was losing air. Headed to Wheel and sprocket, picked up two new tubes, some bar tape, and a new seat.
I installed all that and also overhauled the hubs/bearings front and back and it rides like a champ :)

Found this abandoned motel with it's cute little car ports on Rt. 50, outside of Grafton somewhere.
Some of the little cabins in the rear have apparently been turned into apartments, but this main stretch is in dire condition. Anybody want a fixerupper?
If anyone has more info on this place, please share.
I'll go back for some detail shots some afternoon when I'm feeling brave. These didn't come out very well.
========================
I am terribly sorry to report that this has been entirely demolished and replaced with hideous self storage as of September, 2009. There is no evidence that it ever existed.
The three cabins in the back that have been converted to apartments remain, but covered with aluminum siding.
