The Fitzroy Gardens are 26 hectares (64 acres) located on the southeastern edge of the Melbourne Central Business District in East Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

The Gardens have a long history of over 150 years, few other capital cities can boast such a significant garden so close to the City's centre. As crown land the City of Melbourne are the custodians to preserve and oversee this magnificent garden, visited by over 2 million local, interstate and international visitors each year, it is one of the major attractions in Melbourne.

Little Fitzroy lane way during a gentle Autumn shower.

There is something about tropical sunsets that seems to makes them extra special. Perhaps it’s the fleeting nature of how quickly they pass compared to the higher latitudes, or perhaps it’s the sense of relief when the heat of the day begins to fade compared to the sense of impending cold when the sun disappears. It might just be the gin and tonic. Fitzroy Island, World Heritage Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Far North Queensland, Australia

Love Life, Love Photography

Will be a slow catchup and will be away until Wednesday. Take care and enjoy the weekend.

Although long known to the aborigines, who passed by it on their migrations from the coast to the Highlands, the falls were 'discovered' in the 1820s by Charles Throsby, pioneer settler of Bong Bong, whose property extended as far as the falls itself.

Its spectacular beauty made it a favourite place for the Throsbys to bring their many guests on picnics. One of these, NSW Governor Fitzroy, visited in 1850 and in typically modest manner named the falls after himself.

Twelve years later, when the area was surveyed, they were still referred to as 'Throsby's waterfall', but the name Fitzroy was to win out.

The falls lie in the path of the Yarrunga Creek, which drops over 80 metres down the escarpment, and flows on into the Kangaroo River. The water flow is not as massive, nor as irregular, as in the past due to a water catchment dam further upstream today. The falls have only be known to dry up once in living memory.

Long recognised for its natural beauty, 4000 acres was set aside as a reserve in 1882, and later attempts to 'develop' the area were thwarted by Highlands residents.

A boardwalk leads alongside the creek and through restored native bushland to a lookout at the top of the falls (about 100 metres). Disabled Access.

The views from here are spectacular (see below); you can see down the cliff along the falls, and out towards Kangaroo Valley.

Always good to have some open space in a city.

Those wild winds in Melbourne brought down some tree branches in the local Fitzroy Gardens. It gave me the opportunity to look at the branch of Deodar or Himalayan cedar at ground level. ( i took these home to draw) Lots of little green needles., I could see various parts of the life cycle of the cones. watercolour pencil .

After one week traveling, we finally see amazing Mountains of Fitzroy, Argentina.

A wonderful place down the Illawarra coast!

I couldn't decide on the fast or slow shutter speed for these two images :/

Melbourne. My one hour, with facemask, walk through Fitzroy Gardens this morning.

I followed the ADF & police patrol and sketched them. They were socially distanced, it is my sketch that is incorrect. , The weather is not too bad out at the moment, but I can see rain on its way

During 3 1/2 days hiking in the El Chalten area the wind blew almost constantly and clouds obscured the high peaks. Guest books on the tables of the local brewpub documented similar experiences of previous visitors from around the world who had sought solace in the excellent handmade beer. On the morning of our departure, as the bus back to El Calfate turned a corner on the way out of town, we looked through the window and saw Cerro Fitzroy for the first time. The passengers gasped, the driver stopped the bus, and a number of people with cameras (including me) emptied out on to the street to document this (apparently) rare sight. Later in the day, looking back from El Calfate toward the mountains, the high peaks were once again wrapped in clouds.

Gentle winter sunshine on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Autumn leaves still remain on the trees as the weather has been quite mild this year. Long shadows make for interesting photographic opportunities!
