Stop the madness!!! What's wrong with this picture?! The first day of Spring should not look like this! A look at my Mom's street, her two Hydrangea blossoms didn't snap off with all the heavy snow thrown at them, it's amazing! Best viewed large!

According to the calendar, today was the first day of spring and it was beautiful, we also had a nice sunset to end it with.
I picked up this mug a couple months ago on one of my grocery trips and tucked it aside for the first day of spring.
I half expected that I would forget all about it and curse myself for it, but this afternoon as I was starting dinner prep it popped into my mind and I quickly dug it out of the hiding place I'd stashed it in.
Whew, I'm glad I remembered. Scott suggested this angle and spot and it all came together quite nicely. I really like the way this shot turned out.
Happy First Day of Spring Everyone!
Hope you've all had a good day.

I'm not yet convinced its spring in Idaho, but I've decided to post images that make me THINK SPRING! The return of the Killdeer for me is always a welcome sound that reminds me spring is coming! I heard the first one about 2 weeks ago.
The loosestrife has long since gone to seed but still remains there in the snowy back property of the next door neighbours that goes behind ours.
I may not always get to thank you for every fave or reply to a comment that you might leave here on my image but, just know each comment is read and very much appreciated.

May the sun bring you new energy by day,
may the moon softly restore you by night,
may the rain wash away your worries,
may the breeze blow new strength into your being,
may you walk gently through the world and
know it's beauty all the days of your life.

Spring! You wouldn't really know it by the weather. I mean it's warm but there's been a lot of rain and a lot of wind. But that's okay, the temperature is rising and Scott is out walking Sock in shorts without a coat.
We're getting there; and the sun did poke through the clouds a few times today so I can't really complain.
Hope everyone has had a good day.

Note: THIS IS MY MAIN photo of the three (i.e. the very last photo posted) I'm posting today! Flickr is messing up yet AGAIN, showing my photos in a different order from what I post, when some people look at them, which drives me nuts! Often, my second and third photos are much poorer quality (sometimes downright awful, lol), so that is what people see instead of what is usually the best of the three. They are always displayed in the right order on my photostream. I can tell this image is not being seen, as there are already 11 or 12 views on my second and third photo and nothing on this one. I've just deleted it and uploaded it again to see if that helps, but I suspect not. OK, so yes, it is at least now being seen : )

After a long day out at Frank Lake on Saturday and then checking the upcoming weather forecast, Sunday, 20 March 2016, looked like it was going to be the only decent day of the coming week. Of course, we all know that weather forecasts can change. So, my alarm clocks were all set ridiculously early, though I still left home a bit later than I had intended, and I took myself NW of the city again to see if I could see an owl.
Just a handful of friends were there and we got a few moments of great views of this Great Gray Owl, including a very brief stop (seen in this photo) on top of a small coniferous tree right in front of us while it was hunting. I think it took all of us by surprise. During the rest of the time, I did see an owl fly off into the trees a couple of times, but the rest of the time was spent waiting and chatting with my friends. Patience .....
While we were waiting, someone spotted a beautiful male Mountain Bluebird way down the road. I am pretty sure I had caught a quick glimpse of another Bluebird on my drive to my destination. Also, I seem to remember catching a quick sight of another one recently, but can't for the life of me remember where or when. It's always such a thrill to see a Bluebird, especially the very first of the season. That flash of bright blue takes ones breath away. Two beautiful birds to see on this first day of spring!
"Although the Great Gray Owl is the tallest American owl with the largest wingspan, it is just a ball of feathers. It preys on small mammals and has relatively small feet. Both the Great Horned and Snowy owls weigh half again as much, and have larger feet and talons. The oldest recorded Great Gray Owl was at least 18 years, 9 months old and lived in Alberta." From AllAboutBirds.
The first day of spring brought a lot of snow with it. It was a white wash, as it fell all day long...
I didn't mind, 'cause I love snow. Yes, I am the only person who gets into depression when the snow season is over.
So I went out to drive as much as I can in the snowfall, to enjoy the last bounty of the season. I love the almost invisible surroundings and the calm and peacefulness associated with it. The pictures I take on these drives keep me going for the rest of the year, till the next snow season...
Let me know if you are a snow lover like me...
Our third spring in Oregon. We LOVE it here! We purchased the house based almost entirely on the backyard. Last spring we planted over 200 new plants. This year we'll probably equal or better that.

I know, I know....it's already spring and snowdrops are more of a winter flower. But ours a little slow and are just now at their peak. (Besides, I am still hoping for one more snow :-) ) Hope you have a great Tuesday!
will it ever end??? the squirrels are out in full force, as are the racoons at night - spring has to be just around the corner!
I remember when moons were just moons. Still, it was very beautiful last night! If you look close in the 2nd picture you can see I just missed a flock a snow geese about to fly in front of the disk!

One of three photos taken in a walk along the lake shore today. I feel so blessed to be a part of this neighbourhood.
Thanks for visiting, enjoy your day.
Activity picked up at the lake at Dauset Trails when a family with children crossed the foot bridge and found those machines where you can buy a handful of food to toss to the turtles waiting below in the water. Of course the Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks, and some giant fish all wanted to get their share, too.
In between handfuls being tossed, the Canadian Geese would pause, and watch closely to see where the next goodies would land.

Calluna vulgaris, common heather, ling, or simply heather, is the sole species in the genus Calluna in the flowering plant family Ericaceae. It is a low-growing evergreen shrub growing to 20 to 50 centimetres (8 to 20 in) tall, or rarely to 1 metre (40 in) and taller, and is found widely in Europe and Asia Minor on acidic soils in open sunny situations and in moderate shade.

First day of spring here was a nasty one! Big snow storm It certainly was pretty, however with all the "frosted" trees! ! I've been MIA for a few days. My new laptop of 13 days crashed and they gave me a new one!(nice of them..) Once again, I heard "you've lost everything" and panicked. Everything was there. Whew! I love it in the lightbox!

While we have been having weather in the 70's and almost 80 degrees for the last two weeks - you would not know that today is the first day of Spring - the high is in the 40 degree range. I was lucky to get this shot outside yesterday without any sun - the little bit of color in the background was picked up from the camellia bush -

The first day of Spring was sunny and warm after a cold end to winter in many places. This Anna's seems to be checking out the blue sky and sunshine.

Please don't eat the daffodils - ☠️ Bat and Maggie just had to check out the golden trumpet flowers.
Nota Bene: We took extra care to make sure they didn't eat the daffodils although, they are very, very very, smart cats and know what's good for them.

She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
"Winter is dead.”

Look Into My Eye. You Are Going To Feeeed Meee.
For a few moments I was hypnotized by the Canadian Geese at Dauset Trails and spent something like $2, or 8 handfuls of critter kibble, before I knew what happened.
Fortunately while under their influence I managed to get a few shots before coming to my senses. Plus, I'd also spent all my quarters.
Hoodwinked at Dauset Trails Nature Center. And that's a good thing. :-)

It's a good thing I am a "night owl" sort of person because to get a moon shot, I either have to drive somewhere miles down the road, Or... wait until the moon climbs above the tree tops on the mountain behind me! This was taken with the Canon SX50 Just a little past midnight so technically the first day of spring!
I don't have a lens for the 60D that will reach to the moon yet. It's on the wish list! But that's OK because I can turn the 60D around and take photos of Old Rag mountain in the moon light which the SX50 will Not do! :) Hard to go to bed on a night like this... would so much rather just go out and walk around looking at everything bathed in moonlight! Happy first day of spring everyone, and to those of you still dealing with mounds of snow, well..... Spring will eventually show up ... I think! ;) This is an addition because I just watched it on Facebook... so wonderfully done and such a fantastic way to start spring: www.facebook.com/artstorica/videos/1060114427450162/UzpfS...
