My daughter Sarah particularly likes this photograph, so to please her I'm posting this today. It is a reprise of our trip to the east of here last Saturday. It was a delightful trip (aside from reminding me that it is time to get the snow tires installed again, which I still have not done). All that snow has melted by now, I imagine, but it was a harbinger of things to come! We'll have our fill of it before the winter is over (except for you [https://www.flickr.com/photos/fionnlukphotography/]!).

This photo was taken on the north side of Highway 7 (the Trans-Canada Highway, for those who are interested), approaching Mayberly,as near as I remember.

While I was out in Arizona on a non-train related vacation, I saw a Facebook post about the Grand Canyon Railway releasing an F40PH painted to celebrate the 250th year of the United States of America. As luck would have it, the innaugural run of it would line up perfectly with our drive home. Here it is departing Williams, AZ, heading to the Grand Canyon.

Fortunately, this was the day after we flew back from the east coast, so our flight wasn't delayed. It was a little early for sticking snow here, and was only a couple of inches. Still, it made the yard look wintery. Of course being the coastal northwest, it melted into rain the next day.

Log 2.002.1: Turned out to be a planet, no signs of intelligent life at this point. That means no hope in fixing what was broken from the wormhole jump. There are some interesting plants and minerals here, and I'm pretty sure the ship can refine some of them into fuel. The air isn't breathable, so I've got to keep my time on the surface short and only get what I need.

A late appearance of lake ice is likely due to the ever changing climate. The waterfowl must be satisfied with the remaining open spots or must move on. The pandemic makes large stretches of shoreline empty of human presence although cold temperatures have the same effect.

This is the first young Warbler that I've seen in the reserve for the winter season. The number of Warblers in the reserve has been way down since the Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. Those Hurricanes occurred during the start of the migration, and I think that they went to a different area in the south. This would have resulted on the babies being imprinted on a different location, and therefore, they would migrate to this new location. This is just speculation on my part, but I think it's reasonable.

At first glance it may look iike a long train passing through a bustling town in 1960, but it is about 1/3 of tthe model train and cityscape created by a man in his basement. He let us come see the many electric trains rolling on the tracks through his huge model cityscape complete with a myriad of billboards. You can make out one for Budweiser but the filters I applied make most of them illegible.
