A Chicago & North Western coal empty heads south out of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on December 11, 1993. Brand new C&NW GE C44-9W No. 8603 is on its very first revenue trip, paired up with much grittier C&NW EMD GP7 No. 4323, with 107 cars.
Tecumseh, Nebraska
Another picture in my series of rural Nebraska churches photographed at night. This is the last of the buildings I took pictures of in Tecumseh. I decided that since I had made the long drive to Tecumseh in the middle of the night, I was going to make it worthwhile by visiting all of the churches in town. I liked the lit up stained glass windows at this church.
This is an HDR bracketed exposure of 4 photos of the building and the surrounding area. The HDR composite was put together in Lightroom. The sky is a composite of 8 photos taken at 20 seconds, ISO 1600, for noise reduction. The sky photos were taken on my way home about 20 miles outside of town get away from the light pollution of any nearby towns.
The sky photos were composited in Photoshop and the overall picture was composited in Photoshop.
First Water Cove. Canyon Lake Arizona. The Fountain Grass growing along the shore is an invasive species of grass. It's pretty, but not exactly a good thing. Way to many invasive non native plants in Arizona.

The first foray into dandelion seed heads. They have been a little slow in coming out where I live but with last nights dog walk I picked up this clock head. I have also cleared more space in the loft room to give myself more studio space. So I'm thinking more of the same for the next few POTD's :)
I recently did a 4-day camping trip in the Eastern Sierras. We camped out at the Big Pine Creek Campground.
On one of the days, we hiked the Big Pine Creek North Fork trail. We went as far as Second Lake. This photo is of First Lake (not very imaginative names)!
First Lake is at 9,900 feet and Second Lake is at 10,000 feet. We gained 2,250 feet in elevation and the round trip hike was 9.6 miles. My Steps App reported 31,054 steps and claimed I walked 11.97 miles. Either the App is wrong or I walked around in circles at some point!
My future plan is to hike all the way to to Palisade Glacier. That will involve an overnight backpack which I have never done. The Sierras are so gorgeous and the turquoise lakes slayed me! I really can't wait to get back out there!
Fortunately, this was the day after we flew back from the east coast, so our flight wasn't delayed. It was a little early for sticking snow here, and was only a couple of inches. Still, it made the yard look wintery. Of course being the coastal northwest, it melted into rain the next day.
The first snow storm of the winter hit us harder than forecasted, so I took the camera along to church in hopes of catching the regular westbound after mass.
I started heading east expecting to intercept BICB but instead caught up to CBBI holding at 55th Street Moline for permission into Silvis yard. I got a few shots of CBBI into Silvis then headed home as BICB was going to be a while yet before departing.
The snow encrusted 506 and 509 bring CBBI-03 through the switches at 7th Street East Moline.

First Creek in Chambers Gully in the Cleland Conservation Park in South Australia. This creek flows from here, through Hazelwood Park where we walk our dog and on to the Torrens river.
After arriving in Anchorage we were picking up the rental when we heard 3006 was departing Whittier heading north, in full panic we raced to grab Kelly and shoot south where we made it to Girdwood. Local time is 1020pm and there was enough daylight to chase back all the way to Anchorage in the land of the midnight sun!

The nest was about 4-5 m (15 ft) to camera left, and this little goldfinch had just taken it's maiden flight. Mama took awhile to bring it some food, so it sat there and nodded off. Centre Wellington, Ontario. August17, 2022.

First one this season in our pond. I know I shoot too many of these and this year probably will be no exception.
