Female Common Merganser was with a few others as they are the first

to show up here. There will be hundreds later in the season. I have also seen more Bald Eagles showing up as well. They follow the Mergansers.

This weekend we had storm on the isle which brought heavy rain and gusts of wind. Actually theres a wide beach but today there was nothing which was somehow very spectacular!

Fortunately, this was the day after we flew back from the east coast, so our flight wasn't delayed. It was a little early for sticking snow here, and was only a couple of inches. Still, it made the yard look wintery. Of course being the coastal northwest, it melted into rain the next day.

While I was out in Arizona on a non-train related vacation, I saw a Facebook post about the Grand Canyon Railway releasing an F40PH painted to celebrate the 250th year of the United States of America. As luck would have it, the innaugural run of it would line up perfectly with our drive home. Here it is departing Williams, AZ, heading to the Grand Canyon.

After arriving in Anchorage we were picking up the rental when we heard 3006 was departing Whittier heading north, in full panic we raced to grab Kelly and shoot south where we made it to Girdwood. Local time is 1020pm and there was enough daylight to chase back all the way to Anchorage in the land of the midnight sun!

The nest was about 4-5 m (15 ft) to camera left, and this little goldfinch had just taken it's maiden flight. Mama took awhile to bring it some food, so it sat there and nodded off. Centre Wellington, Ontario. August17, 2022.
