The "fireproof" garage was built by the Kopac brother in 1914 as auto traffic began to pick up along the Lincoln Highway, which went through (instead of around) Schuyler. It now appears to be a seed warehouse.

Inspection reveals missed asbestos-containing spray-applied fireproofing remaining from incomplete abatement years prior. This fluffy, fibrous fireproofing material is a mixture of friable mineral wool, chrysotile asbestos, and binders.

Of further note, the crumbly over-spray applied onto adjacent concrete block (CMU) walls has also has migrated down into the open CMU interior cells contaminating the wall system as well.

Asbestos-containing fireproofing debris on top of suspended ceiling panel, which poses an exposure risk to various personnel who may disturb the loose dust and debris when accessing the ceiling space during the course of their work duties. Time for proper remediation to clean the panels.

Looking into the Veterans Drive Tunnel under Interstate 5 in Kent, WA, workers install paneling along the inner walls of the tunnel. The metal frame under the panels supports these fireproof panels.

Attaching the framing requires a work platform and multiple crew members to safely put the panels and metal rods in place. This work is a part of the State Route 509 Completion project, which connects SR 509 to I-5.

The SR 509 Completion project is part of the Puget Sound Gateway program, which completes the missing links in Washington state's highway and freight network.

A lot of these old "fireproof" signs have been uncovered around town lately...
