BIG MOUTH: contemporary feminist voices in art and illustration
OPENING AUGUST 9 @ BROOKLYN FIREPROOF
a group show featuring
Suzy Exposito / Molly Fair / Kim Funk / Kathleen Hanna
J. Morrison / Adee Roberson / Gabby Schulz
Curated by Kate Wadkins + Lauren Denitzio, BIG MOUTH: contemporary voices in feminist art + illustration is a platform for unpopular visual opinions. Feminist movements have historically grown out of interventions within radical communities in the face of silence, anger, and often, violence. Still, these conflicts and contentions are fought with the utmost passion and humor in hopes for a radical resolution. BIG MOUTH illustrates the ever-evolving search for feminist/queer identities and communities. This group show places feminist narratives at the center of radical art-making, where often our voices are poorly represented or left out altogether. BIG MOUTH is a celebration of our pluralism, our goofiness, and a proclamation of defiant love.

This photo was taken at Anchor 7 Ranch Museum near Thorsby, Alberta.
Larry Gitzel, a former country auctioneer, has created a museum-worthy collection of historical artefacts from the Thorsby region.
Since this has been a farming community since it was settled by immigrants several decades ago, most of these artefacts relate in some way or other to food production.

Safe I picked up today, literally, ouch. Its a sentry safe but you will not find any videos of this one on youtube being thrown up against a CMU wall. I'd guess its a stout 250 pounds, and the lady who I picked it up from said that it is at least 50 years old. Gotta love craigslist .

The Fireproof Building, also known as County Records Building, is located at 100 Meeting St., Charleston, South Carolina. It was designed by Robert Mills and constructed by John G. Spindle. It was completed by 1827. At that time, it was the most completely fireproof building in America and it is believed to be the oldest fireproof building in America today

Drawer nameplate from an old steel desk that I am restoring to use as a workbench. I am told that General Fireproofing eventually became part of the present-day Knoll brand.
Fault, Istanbul, 2000.
Looped video 6 minutes. Fireproof coverall with internal videoprojection and sound.
Shot from a boat on the Bosporus, above the faultline between Asia and Europe. Both shores were filmed simultaneously with mirrors at 90 degrees in front of the lens. The rocking of the boat makes the continents rub against each other, like in an earthquake. East and West struggle to form one horizon.
OA Intelligent Raised Floor (OA500 Series) is made up by drawing the high quality steel plate with spot welding, spraying plastic and the lumen is filled with froth cement; the bracket is galvanization and casting aluminum alloy framework; the height can be adjustable with auto-locking function; the floor around has two kinds type such as trimming and riveting. Because the wiring of intelligentized building is very complex and the function is complete, there are many outlet interfaces. This floor has double-side outlet interface, which avoids the inconvenience of alloy steel floor. It needs angle-lock with no-girder to install, which has the character of fixed, stable and convenient to adjust etc.

The Rapid City Garage was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Photographs from 2011, after rehabilitation.
The Rapid City Garage was constructed of rubble stone masonry with a painted buff colored brick veneer. Built in 1911 as an auto sales and repair garage for Canfield and Holcomb (dealers in Cole and Overland autos), it was the first garage built with fireproof construction. The garage provided for large entry doors, reinforced floors and ramp to basement level storage. In the late 1920's, the Raymond Motors Company dealership occupied the building and sold Chrysler/Plymouth automobiles until the beginning of World War II. The building then went through a series of tenants ranging from the Railway Express Agency, U.S. Reserves, a furniture store, a restaurant, professional offices, and the Montgomery
Ward catalog and auto repair store. The rear wing was added in the late 1930's to allow for larger automobiles and truck repair. The storefront was modified, probably in the late 1940's, to accept commercial store window display.
The second floor contained two hallways dividing a series of rooms that were part of the hotel/nursing home use and rooms utilized by a publishing company. The second floor of many early commercial buildings doubled as a rooming or boarding house for travelers through the city. The close proximity to the two railroad depots offered a ready supply of clients to the boarding house. The second floor had nearly twenty rooms for rent by the day, week, or month, and the boarding rooms/hotel business passed from the Ferdinand House, to Hank's Rooms, Fitzgerald Hotel, Arrowhead Hotel and finally to the Mt. View Hotel.

When we speak of passive fire protection, we generally are referring to a wide range of practices and products. For the sake of better understanding, we can describe PFP as specific materials that are ingrained in our surrounding structures with the sole purpose of stopping fires from starting or spreading. www.iogs.org/passive-fire-protection
