We don't know much about this school - whether it was actually built or if this is just a conceptual drawing. If you recognize it, or if you know that the building still exists, leave a comment. We'd even love a link to a Google map if you can find this building.
Rosslyn Hotel. The sign is used in many MANY movies, fashion shoots and videos. Usually on the roof, from the back of the sign.
This place was very modern when new and then for about 4 decades was a skid row hotel, like the Alexandria.
These buildings have joined the other 3 of 4 dozen or so former hotels and office buildings in the area being rehabbed and converted to low income housing, artist lofts, market value housing and exclusive condos.
If i were gonna move downtown into one of the new places, I'd wait to see which ones get trendy first and not get stuck in one that goes ghetto,

• aka Charleston District Record Bldg. • at the time of its construction it was considered the most fire protected structure yet • believed to be oldest building of fireproof construction in the US • because the bldg. was designed to safely store public records, no flammable materials were used • consists primarily of solid masonry in a simple Greek Doric style, with copper roof & iron window sashes, frames & shutters —National Park Service
• designed by Charleston native Robert Mills (1781-1855), designer of the Washington Monument & self-proclaimed "first professionally trained American architect" • worked with Thomas Jefferson as a draftsman for Monticello & with Benjamin Latrobe engineering the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal • responsible for the Washington Monument & Treasury Bldg., Washington, D.C..

An early reinforced concrete building attributed to a French architect by the name of "Viett", constructed shortly after Beaufort's "Great Fire" of 1907 and intended to be fireproof. Long vacant, the building now claims 10 "luxury guest rooms"
"The Fireproof Building, a National Historic Landmark, was the most fire protected building at the time of its construction in 1827. Aptly named for this architectural feature, the building was originally called the Charleston District Record Building. It is now believed to be the oldest building of fireproof construction in the United States. The Fireproof Building is also characteristic of the work of Robert Mills, the first native-born American to be trained as an architect, and a Charleston native. He worked with other important early American architects such as Thomas Jefferson, as a draftsman for Monticello, and Benjamin Latrobe, engineering the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Mills was responsible for the Washington Monument and many public buildings throughout the State and nation."
After our morning excursion aboard the White Pass Scenic Railway, Mike and I continued our exploration of Skagway, Alaska, with a self-guided walking tour. We later returned to the National Park Service visitor center to join a ranger-led guided walk. From the visitor center, our guide led us to the museum next door, which is housed in the former White Pass & Yukon Route Administration Building on 2nd Avenue near Broadway. The administration building was originally constructed in 1900 and was used until the railroad opened its new offices in 1969; it was subsequently acquired by the National Park Foundation in 1971 and transferred to the National Park Service in 1976. Today, it is part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and operates as a museum.
During our tour, the park ranger encouraged us to have a peek inside the building's two-story, fireproof safe. A few details from the nearby informational placard:
Klondike Gold
The White Pass and Yukon Route railroad was opened to Lake Bennett on July 6, 1899, and to Whitehorse on July 29, 1900. The quickest and easiest route to Dawson and the gold fields was by the railroad to Whitehorse and steamboat down the Yukon River. Shipments of gold traveled out the same way. Klondike gold was stored in this safe.
To make patrons feel safer, many old hotels would advertise that they were 'fireproof', like the former Hotel Muscatine in Muscatine, IA.

Built of brick, the front elevation, of an attractive classic design employing the Corinthian order, finished in white cement and blended sand. Steel framed windows employed throughout, and the roof constructed of welded steel. Not only is this class of roof almost as cheap as Oregon timber for large spans, but it has the advantage of being fireproof. The steel is also made in Australia, whereas Oregon has to be imported.
The new building will contain a hall 78 ft by 45 ft with a stage 24 ft by 45 ft. The front entrance vestibule, which will be 12 ft square, will be flanked by cloak rooms for men and women respectively. A special dancing floor of polished jarrah will be provided in the hall. The front portion of the building will be of two storeys, the first floor containing two lodge rooms and a biograph box, 12 ft by 9 ft. It is estimated that the hall will provide seating accommodation for about 600 people. The back portion of the present hall will be converted into a supper room 50 ft long by 28 ft wide having access both to the new hall and to the existing kitchen accommodation. The front portion, which will be 33 ft by 28 ft, will be used as a library, the present library room, which occupies part of the site on which the new hall will be built, being demolished. In the space occupied by the stage in the present hall dressing rooms having access to the stage in the new hall will be built. The architect in charge of the work is Mr. E. Carodoc Ashton [of Carodoc Ashton & Fisher].

Crowds See Opening of New Institute - Record Concert Attendance
Over 500 people watched Saturday's procession as it marched from the showgrounds to the new institute hall, which was officially opened by Sir William Sowden later in the afternoon.
Introduced by Mr Earl P Simons (president of the Institute Committee), Sir William paid many tributes to the dignity and beauty of the new hall, which, he thought, surpassed any other country hall. He then declared the structure open, amid applause.
Mr A W Robinson, M.P., then unveiled a [marble] tablet (in the vestibule) erected to the memory of the late Mr Carl Belling, whose generous donations to the Institute have proved invaluable.
Afternoon tea in the old hall was well patronised, £6/4/3 being netted. Supper at night realised £3/2/9. Here Balaklava women showed their true worth, to their great and lasting credit.
Over 600 people saw the concert given by a talented company of Adelaide artists, headed by Fred Murray and Miriam Lester, in the evening, when it was found that all who wished to attend could not be accommodated.
Biggest Ball - Wonderful Women Workers
Setting new records for attendance and success, the first ball in the new institute hall, held on Tuesday night last, must go down in the town's history as the biggest and best up to this date. Gross receipts amounted to £76/16/6, 439 people paying for admission. Of this amount, about £15 only has to be deducted for expenses.
The dance was a most auspicious opening for the new hall, practically every centre within a 30 mile radius being represented. At 2:30 a m., when Auld Lang Syne brought the event to a close, there were still over two hundred present - eloquent testimony to the success of the evening. Throughout the evening there was no congestion, and on every side were heard references to the beauty and size of the new hall.

Saginaw's Bearinger Building was built in 1893 by renowned local architect W.T. Cooper and named for lumber baron Isaac Bearinger. It was touted as one of the city's first "fireproof" buildings, a notable achievement in a lumbering town often ravaged by large blazes. Today the building, though currently vacant, is one of only a handful of historic structures that remain in the downtown area. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Ghost signs on a wall in Beatrice, Nebraska. One is for Palmer's Fireproof Warehouse, and the other is for a brand of flour whose name I can't make out.
Another storage warehouse-they're all over the place! This one's in Edgewater, on Broadway. The building houses (or housed) a home decorating place on the ground floor, and a storage place is next door. I find it interesting that the builders felt the need to add "fireproof" to the sign at the top of the building!
Iconic, enduring, eminent. These are just a few words that describe the historic Coleman's Fireproof Depository building

BIG MOUTH: contemporary feminist voices in art and illustration
OPENING AUGUST 9 @ BROOKLYN FIREPROOF
a group show featuring
Suzy Exposito / Molly Fair / Kim Funk / Kathleen Hanna
J. Morrison / Adee Roberson / Gabby Schulz
Curated by Kate Wadkins + Lauren Denitzio, BIG MOUTH: contemporary voices in feminist art + illustration is a platform for unpopular visual opinions. Feminist movements have historically grown out of interventions within radical communities in the face of silence, anger, and often, violence. Still, these conflicts and contentions are fought with the utmost passion and humor in hopes for a radical resolution. BIG MOUTH illustrates the ever-evolving search for feminist/queer identities and communities. This group show places feminist narratives at the center of radical art-making, where often our voices are poorly represented or left out altogether. BIG MOUTH is a celebration of our pluralism, our goofiness, and a proclamation of defiant love.

A simple hack.
1/2" screw protectors from HD, exactly fit over the backrest bumpers. Mine are hard and starting to crack and split (and of course have some damn red spray paint on them) so these fit snuggly over the old ones.
Update:
I found some rubber things called 'vacuum caps' at Autozone. The 5/16" ones fit over the metal studs (what's under the black thing on the left). You just have to cut them shorter, to match the length of the original black bumpers. Then the grey screw protectors fit over the trimmed vacuum caps. New supersnug, quiet bumpers for the backrest, AND the grey screw protectors EXACLTY color match the Rustoleum Industrial Grey paint!
At first you will curse and swear you cut the cover too small, or your foam is too thick, or the batting has to come out. Then remember this guy...
mitchellpowellfurnishings.com/rest_p_Egg Chair.htm
...and keep pulling and stretching and reclipping, flip it over, check your front seams, tug some more, reclip etc.
When it's finally perfect, trim any excess batting. Then, one by one, replace the gator clips with the original metal clips. (refer to "Disassembly 10" for clip placement)
