One of the fireflies from my yard got lost in the house last night. I'm not entirely sure about the species (many of them can only be distinguished by blinking patterns). I tried to get it to blink for me, but their flash time is shorter than the shutter lag on my camera and I haven't been able to catch a picture of it. As a side note, I've stumbled across a trivia list somewhere that had Boone, NC listed as the "firefly capitol of the US" - *LOL* - so true!

I spent a warm summer night in Wisconsin watching the fireflies dance. In the distant is a summer storm passing by. Love these evenings.

It seems to me that the amount of fireflies filing the summer sky has virtually disappeared since I was a kid... however, recently I found a large gathering of them at a nearby stream! Hard to do it justice!
Such a strange looking creature - narrow head, quite long pointy legs, vibrant colours and a tail that feathers out. I photographed one of these last year too, though I think this is a better shot of it.

Firefly sometimes needs to rely on non-wireless technology to get the job done.
As he readies the detonator, he knows he will be close enough to feel the blast aftershock in his chest.
He calms his breathing and braces himself for a terribly loud explosion nearby.
