With all the rain that we have had on the east coast, I have a feeling that this will be a really good year for the fireflies. My four-year-old daughter and I caught a few and they are small, juvenile lightning bugs. Once they mature the show will be even better! This photo was taken towards a patch of forest in front of US 222. The red streaks are from a few passing cars. The photo was made of 60 twenty-second exposures and stacked in StarStaX.
I found a little faery living among my water lilies, her name is Cricket. She glows in the dark and I am completely in love with her!
She is a Charles Creature Cabinet Firefly Faery Fidelia.
I teamed up with my good friend Dave Cross and we came up with this concept. Lit using a single Yonnuo YN 560II inside of an Aurora 26 inch Firefly octabox on camera right.
See the set up here www.flickr.com/photos/rulephoto/9025844740/
The camera used is a Nikon D4 with a Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VRII lens.
This Waymo Firefly is one from a series of testing vehicles for autonomous driving. It doesn't have a steering wheel or other controls for the driver. In 2015 it was used for the world’s first totally self-driving trip in Austin, TX. Waymo stopped use of the Firefly in 2017 and now has a fleet of adapted vehicles from regular car brands. This one is currenty on display in the Design Museum in Den Bosch for an exhibition about design from California.
Tried getting closer but a wild boar prevented that. Startled us and then we saw the huge trap laid out for him and decided that the other side of the river looked nicer...

All photos in the Tranquilla album, with this costume, were taken at Natthimmel. Their current design is called Faeoria. That is closing in two days. They are planning to be back with the redesigned land by the end of this month. Come on over, and enjoy exploring here.

My first try for this year to capture fireflies at night in my backyard ;-) Don't really know what I'm doing at night with the long exposure and all that stuff but I hope you still can tell!
All the little greenish dots are fireflies - much better viewed large on black!!!!

Valkenburg, 5 June 1992.
The Firelfy was a very special guest at Valkenburg for the 75th anniversary of the Marineluchtvaartdienst (MLD).
The MLD had more than 80 Fairy Firefly's of different types: Mk1's, Mk.4's, Mk.5's and Mk. T1's from 1946 until December 1961.
WB271 was part of the Royal Navy Historical Flight.
Fireflies are very hard to capture!
This is the best I came out with...
The friend that was with me got a much better result, you can see it here:
This isn't as clear as I would ideally like, but this is probably as good a shot of a firefly as I'm going to get. I opened the front door, and this little guy was just posing there for me on the screen door.
I have summer on my mind! This July evening is supposed to be full of fireflies but I think I need to get some more contrast in there somehow to make the fireflies stand out. This was done with a superfine Pitt pen, watercolor pencils and a white gel pen for the fireflies.
As part of my A Level Photography, I decided to do a project on insects, one of the shoots focuses on Butterflies, another on Spiders and this particular shoot is on Fireflies.
