… E SI CHIAMANO FIREFLY !!!
They are not really fireflies, but they looked gorgeous, flitting about, backlit by the setting sun, and I couldn't resist trying to capture them

The larvae of fireflies (beetles in the family Lampyridae) are easily recognized by their tiny heads on retractable necks, and by their shield-like dorsal plates. Lampyrids are also among the beetle grubs that use a retractable adhesive organ at the tip of their abdomen as a seventh leg when they walk. In some firefly species (trilobite beetles), the females retain their wingless, shield-backed grub shape even as reproductive adults.
A firefly joined us for dinner on the patio at Nomad Pizza. Nice ambience! (Inge was afraid he would fall into the bottle and drown, so she put her finger into the bottle immediately after I took these pictures.)

Always wanted to find a picture for this song - finally did ;-) Got those shots yesterday in between rain showers in my backyard!!!
I love fireflies - it's like fireworks in my backyard at night ;-))
Ocean Beach California - Sunset 16:52.
As we watched the sunset, Fireflies by Owl City played on the radio. Great song - check it out.
You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
'Cause they'd fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude
But I would just stand and stare
I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems.
It just seemed to fit perfectly.
Tomorrow we travel through Palm Springs and the Mojave Desert, hopefully crossing Route 66 on the way to Las Vegas.
I guess that we should make the best of the sunshine before returning home on Friday.
This Waymo Firefly is one from a series of testing vehicles for autonomous driving. It doesn't have a steering wheel or other controls for the driver. In 2015 it was used for the world’s first totally self-driving trip in Austin, TX. Waymo stopped use of the Firefly in 2017 and now has a fleet of adapted vehicles from regular car brands. This one is on display in the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA.

To the many visitors - thank you for taking some time to visit, for your comments, purchases and donations. Thank you to my friends and to my co-owners for your support, visits and help.
It was two very memorable years.
Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start.
Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

I spotted some Firefly larva on a tree trunk. They were in various stages of transformation. First time I have actually seen them changing!

I have been trying to reproduce fireflies on paper for a long time. I think I found a pretty good way to do it with alcohol inks. The girl and cat were water-colored and fussy cut.
July 2015
Along a two track in the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore where the only other critters roaming were a possom, a porcupine and the massively murderous mosquito marauders ... ugh!
What you are seeing is a collection of 71, 10 second photos stacked into one photo covering about 11 minutes ... the time it takes to approach the edge of human mosquito tollerance(when you have a choice)!
timelapse clip is here:
