Synchronous Fireflies in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina & Tennessee. www.jkputnamphotography.com
With all the rain that we have had on the east coast, I have a feeling that this will be a really good year for the fireflies. My four-year-old daughter and I caught a few and they are small, juvenile lightning bugs. Once they mature the show will be even better! This photo was taken towards a patch of forest in front of US 222. The red streaks are from a few passing cars. The photo was made of 60 twenty-second exposures and stacked in StarStaX.
I found a little faery living among my water lilies, her name is Cricket. She glows in the dark and I am completely in love with her!
She is a Charles Creature Cabinet Firefly Faery Fidelia.

In 2015 it was used for the world’s first totally self-driving trip in Austin, TX. Waymo stopped use of the Firefly in 2017 and now has a fleet of adapted vehicles from regular car brands. This one is currenty on display in the Design Museum in Den Bosch for an exhibition about design from California.
Tried getting closer but a wild boar prevented that. Startled us and then we saw the huge trap laid out for him and decided that the other side of the river looked nicer...
