I can't think of a better caption that the opening line of the chorus from the Move's 1968 hit Fire Brigade for this fire engine, which is the same age as my mum. It's a 1949 Dennis F7 Pump Escape and was new to the City of Chester Fire Brigade, which became part of Cheshire Fire Brigade in 1974. I don't know this vehicle's service history, but I'm assuming it would have been relegated to the training school in the 1960s.
You're probably wondering what the searchlight on top of the roof was for. Well, that was so that the Fire Officer could see the houses at night when responding to a call. I reckon that, like all emergency services, a fireman had to detach himself from the job otherwise he'd go loopy. I think it was a case of forget about it first and have a good cry later...especially if it involved children. These days, if they were called out to a fire which involved a child who'd been left home alone (like what happened in the first episode of London's Burning) the crew of a fire engine would go absolutely fucking mental if the parents arrived back.
"Where the fuck have you been?" might be the first question.

Tours of fire stations in Ventura County including Santa Paula, Fillmore, Oxnard, Ventura City and Ventura County.
On call, but not needed, a Scania ladder fire truck at the 'lines down' incident in Vogeltown, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand, 10 days prior to Christmas 2008. A small Isuzu fire police truck is also in attendance.
Some of the Matchbox castings which have sadly turned to plastic have carried it off pretty well in all fairness, the International Workstar I would say less so. The whole casting now looks quite cheapo which is ironic considering SunQ Toys make their own copy of this which is all metal and looks better made! I suspect Matchbox will have a much better 2016 though unfortunately I don't see the halt in changing certain models from metal to plastic.
