KADENA AIR BASE, Japan (April 19, 2017) - U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Locke Williams, 44th Aircraft Maintenance Unit crew chief, prepares an F-15 Eagle for flight at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Because I was anxious to see the old stuff, I didn't check to see why the EAA AirVenture Museum had an F-22 full-scale (?) mock-up of the Raptor. I believe it was to show younger museum-goers state-of-the-art aircraft technology. Education is a major component of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Taxing for take off.
Captain Matthew Kutryk. Thank you for your service.
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (hence the F/A designation). Designed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) and Northrop, the F/A-18 was derived from the latter's YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations and, since 1986, by the U.S. Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.
The F/A-18 has a top speed of Mach 1.8 (1,034 knots, 1,190 mph or 1,915 km/h at 40,000 ft or 12,200 m). It can carry a wide variety of bombs and missiles, including air-to-air and air-to-ground, supplemented by the 20-mm M61 Vulcan cannon. It is powered by two General Electric F404 turbofan engines, which give the aircraft a high thrust-to-weight ratio. The F/A-18 has excellent aerodynamic characteristics, primarily attributed to its leading edge extensions. The fighter's primary missions are fighter escort, fleet air defense, Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD), air interdiction, close air support, and aerial reconnaissance. Its versatility and reliability have proven it to be a valuable carrier asset, though it has been criticized for its lack of range and payload compared to its earlier contemporaries, such as the Grumman F-14 Tomcat in the fighter and strike fighter role, and the Grumman A-6 Intruder and LTV A-7 Corsair II in the attack role.
The Hornet first saw combat action during the 1986 United States bombing of Libya and subsequently participated in the 1991 Gulf War and 2003 Iraq War. The F/A-18 Hornet provided the baseline design for the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, its larger, evolutionary redesign.

The 2010 Fort Worth Alliance Air Show. First time to an air show for me and I must say it's a lot of fun. I wish the Blue Angels flew earlier in the day when the light was better. The sun was nearly in our faces which happened to be the direction we were shooting.

Back to April 2012 at Hyakuri Air Force Base in Japan, during a time of increased tension with North Korea due to their missile testing. Consequently, when the usual military runway was already in use, some recoveries were made on the other runway usually reserved for traffic on the civil airport side of the airfield. So, 'right place, right time' as JASDF F-4EJ Phantom 37-8320 from the based 302 Hikotai recovers from a sortie and deploys its brake chute.
A new more 'Russian' nose. Sorry 'bout the blur.
Jack and I were both originally building Su-51 Fafnirs, but we parted ways on design, so now he has the Fafnir, while I have the superficially similar Su-57 Firestorm. Jack's has more navalized tailfins, and he wants it to have more of a strike role. Mine is a high-altitude interceptor/tactical fighter designed for your basic fighter duties, dogfighting, shooting missiles, escorting bombers, that type of stuff.
She stood like a fighter jet, no smokes were produced by the engine but thousands of shinny crystal balls.

The MiG-21 was nicknamed ołówek (pencil) by Polish pilots due to the shape of its fuselage.

The Terrazzo, the large, square pavilion to the east of the Cadet Area at the United States Air Force Academy, was designed by landscape architect Dan Kiley.
The United States Air Force Academy is an accredited college for the undergraduate education of officer candidates for the United States Air Force. The youngest of the five United States service academies, it was founded in 1959 and graduated its first class in 1959. With a total enrollment of only around 4,500, the Air Force Academy is among the most selective colleges in the country. The campus of the Academy covers 18,000 acres on the east side of the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains, just north of Colorado Springs, at a stated altitude of 7,258 feet above sea-level, which is the elevation of the cadet area.
The Cadet Area, located approximately four miles west of the Academy's north entrance off U.S. I-25, was designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) and lead architect Walter Netsch, with SOM partner John O. Merrill relocating from Chicago to a Colorado Springs field office to oversee the construction. Completed in 1963, and expanded from 1965-1968 by the architectural firms of Leo A. Daly, Inc. and Henningson, Durham, and Richardson, the Cadet Area has gone largely unchanged since. The design is notable for its distinct, modernist style--contrasting the traditional designs of West Point and Annapolis--with extensive use of aluminum on building exteriors, suggesting the outer skin of aircraft or spacecraft.
