I have to say that I am pretty chuffed with myself for capturing this photo. I was tracking this CF-18 Hornet as it was passing at a high rate of speed. I managed to capture some excellent images and then it passed behind a tree. I was prepared to delete the tree shots when I discovered that I'd actually nailed focus and framing right through the foliage. Not bad! I didn't even need to crop the resulting image.

With the arrestor gear pulled to the side, a pair of the visiting US Air Force F-22A Raptors melt into the heat haze generated from Lakenheath's huge runway as they arrive back from their afternoon 'work-out' while on their recent TDY with the based 48th Fighter Wing.

Pulling Gs and creating a huge cloud of condensation above the the fuselage. The quality of this photo is quite bad, I know, and would never be accepted to a major website like A.net. However, for me as an aviation engineer and passionate photographer, it is important because it captures the dynamic of flight and rare atmospheric effects. That is why I like Flickr, because I have the creative freedom to add such grainy, 100% crop photos.

There were some fighter jets that recently flew over Wisconsin this past week. By the time I realized what I was seeing fly by the window making all that noise, I was able to quick grab my camera, trip over the dog, and snap a few shots from the back deck while they turned to head more north to do hospital fly overs.

One of the most interesting and secretive areas of electronic air warfare is the ability to jam and suppress enemy air defenses. This is where the Growler operates and excels.

The Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star, introduced in 1948, was the United States' first operational jet fighter. Powered by a General Electric J33 engine, it boasted a top speed of 600 mph and a range of 800 miles. Armed with six 0.50 caliber machine guns, it played a pivotal role during the Korean War.
