When rumors circulated that the Terran Union was in the market for a new medium space superiority fighter, Turner Industries leapt into action, completing, with their own funds, a fully working prototype before bidding even began.Needless to say, Turner Industries won the contract handily, as they had already footed the design costs, thereby allowing them to undercut their competitors.
The Perseus is a medium space superiority fighter of middling speed and maneuverability-a strange design decision, to say the least. To compensate for its relatively low speed (for its role), Turner Industries outfitted it with nearly unparalleled firepower and protection for a fighter of its size-it features two heavy hardpoints (usually only found on bombers) that normally mount 30 mm gatling cannons. In addition, this is the first space-faring vessel lighter than a corvette to feature a shield system.
The Perseus is generally quite successful in dogfighting situations, and can be made to be successful in anti-frigate maneuvers by mounting heavier cannons or ship-to-ship torpedoes in place of the gatling cannons.

My ongoing aircraft project for the last few months. I've tweaked it several times, but I think yesterday was the last time so here you go. Its a mix of the Rockwell FSW concept aircraft and the FSW F-16.
The Postcard
A postcard that was published by the Photochrom Co. Ltd., Graphic Studios, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. On the back of the card they modestly claim that they are "Publishers to the World."
The card was posted in Cheltenham using two 1d. stamps on Wednesday the 16th. June 1954. It was sent to:
Mr. & Mrs. Stanley,
'Homestead'
Far Bank,
Shelley,
Huddersfield.
The message on the divided back was as follows:
"Belle Vue Hotel,
Cheltenham.
Wednesday.
Dear Cousins,
Cousin Annie, Lily & I
are on holiday. We went
round the Wye Valley
yesterday, and are off
to London this morning.
Tomorrow we go to
Lowestoft until Sunday.
Love from Cousin Ellen."
Lockheed XFV
So what else happened on the day that Ellen posted the card?
Well, on the 16th. June 1954, the first official flight of the Lockheed XFV took place. on 16 June 1954.
The Lockheed XFV (sometimes referred to as the "Salmon")is an American experimental tailsitter prototype aircraft built by Lockheed in the early 1950's to demonstrate the operation of a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fighter for protecting convoys.
The XFV was powered by a 5,332 hp (3,976 kW) Allison YT40-A-6 turboprop engine driving three-bladed contra-rotating propellers. The tail surfaces were a reflected cruciform v-tail (forming an x) that extended above and below the fuselage. The aircraft had an ungainly appearance on the ground with a makeshift, fixed landing gear attached. Lockheed employees derisively nicknamed the aircraft the "pogo stick" (a direct reference to the rival Convair XFY's name).
The aircraft made a total of 32 flights. The XFV-1 was able to make a few transitions in flight from the conventional to the vertical flight mode and back, and had briefly held in hover at altitude.
However with the realization that the XFV's top speeds would be eclipsed by contemporary fighters and that only highly experienced pilots could fly the aircraft, the project was cancelled in June 1955.

Before anyone says anything along the lines of
"Y r he wearin' poleez yooneeform if he'z a piraat lol?!?!"
He's a pirate; he quite obviously stole the uniform becasue it was black, like his ship.
Duh.

American fun times - rides, water slides, and greasy food. :D Even though it was hotter than Hades out there, for real. Emily and I realized on July 3rd that, bizarrely, neither of us had any plans for the next day, and that a road trip was totally possible. With that in mind, we formulated a plan for Ligonier/Idlewild. We sent out communications and Tenley and Paolo decided to join us. It was kind of sad that none of the shops in Ligonier were open, but we got to go to Fort Ligonier, which was an appropriately historical way to spend some time on the fourth. Then we spent the rest of the day in Idlewild, riding crazy rides, shooting down water slides, and sweating our balls off. Seriously. It must have been 100 degrees with 100% humidity. It was intense.
