Lt. Col. Dean Eckmann (then a major) waves Sept. 28, 2006, as he prepares to take-off in a North Dakota Air National Guard 119th Wing F-16A fighter jet. Eckmann was one of the North Dakota Air National Guardsman who responded following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. They scrambled from the Wing's alert detachment at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and were soon flying over the Pentagon. Master Sgt. Michael F. Sears, 177th Fighter Wing, was presented the Silver Star, the third highest military award, June 28, 2014, during a ceremony at the 177th at Egg Harbor Township, N.J., for actions while deployed to Afghanistan on Sept. 29, 2012. On that day, a three-man Air Force explosive ordnance disposal team led by Sears found itself in the middle of a complex ambush in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. During the course of a two-hour firefight, Sears provided life-saving aid to a fallen coalition soldier from Poland; ran five times through a 150-yard open area riddled with enemy machine gun fire to direct his team in returning fire; and continued on with the fight after being knocked temporarily unconscious by a rocket-propelled grenade blast. Although Miramar is no longer the home of the Top Gun school, it is still an important training base for FA-18 Hornet pilots. Today's flying programme was courtesy of the home unit plus two visiting units: VMFA-251 "The Thunderbolts" from Beaufort, South Carolina flying the F/A-18 Hornet and VFA-211 "The Fighting Checkmates" from Oceana NAS, Virginia flying the modified F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. Notice the "Aggressor" unit F-18 in camouflage..

Y1 - Rumblebee is a experimental fighter, never fully developed because of problems in testing. For one pilots could not get used to controlling the weird angled thrusters, and there was no basic reusable weaponry. This left the pilot vunerable after discharging his missles.
Several proposals had been put forth to remedy it's weak pionts, but to no avail. The old rumblebee project was scraped.
I debated making this a bit bigger, but in the end I'm satisfied with a smaller design. Experimented a bit with striping in this one.
