28th January 2018 at the Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow.
Celtic Connections Festival, www.celticconnections.com/.
Country: Sweden. Style: various styles of traditional music.
Lineup: Ale Möller (låtmandola/flutes/whistle/trumpet/cow's horn/piano accordion/harmonium/hammered dulcimer), Aly Bain (fiddle), Fraser Fifield (low whistle/border pipes/soprano sax), Tuva Syvertsen (v/hardanger fiddle/harmonium/percussion), Knut Reiersrud (g/lap steel g), Olle Linder (d/percussion/b).
This project began as a commission for a 2016 concert in the Jazz At Berlin Philharmonic series. The aim was to step away from Jazz towards "Celtic Music". However, as a Swede and a Norwegian were asked to put the concert together it became about the paths taken by Celtic music as it travelled across northern European and the United States. The performance at Celtic Connections lacked one of the seven musicians from 2016 - Eric Bibb. However there were still several American folk songs e.g. "Mole in the Ground", "In the Pines", "St James Infirmary" (though not ones I have ever thought of as "Celtic"). The group is now two Swedes, two Norwegians and two Scots. I have previously taken photos of Ale Möller and Aly Bain in a trio with Bruce Molsky (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157625540625666/), Bain in his duo with Phil Cunningham (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/albums/72157680303772331/), and a Fraser Fifield Quartet (www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157638468331024/),

Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.Close mouthed "lipped" version - Dome removed. Old bone when dry, is mostly white...living bone has a more aged white, richness to it. So the skull is more off white this time around with darker hues surrounding it. Still have some detailing to add. #alien #nodome #bigchap #painting #nostromo #giger

"Potters Patent, March 7, 1865."
"R.W. Potter of New York patented his picture card frame on March 7, 1865 and it is his patented card mount which is most commonly encountered amongst those with any patent markings printed on them.... The form of tintype (also referred to as ferrotype or sometimes melainotype) known as a 'gem'; is a small photographic image usually anywhere from 3/4" to 1" wide and 1¼" high made possible by the use of a multi-lens camera with repeating back which therefore could produce multiple exposures on a single photographic plate. In terms of quantity, the gem was the most prolifically produced form of photograph in the 1860s in America...." -- Marcel Safier, Brisbane, Australia via an Internet Search.

Gram Fifield, and her husband, Edward, were foster parents for my Great-grandmother Rose Ella Andrews after her father died in the Civil War and her mother died soon after. My maternal grandparents saw I was interested in old photos and gave me Gram Fifield's album in the 1960s.
Despite there being 17 loads ready to go. From what I've seen, Fifield is only switched on the northbound run. Loads are pulled and empties spotted. The loads are then dropped in the yard at Park Falls and go south on the next train.
Workbench progress- Quick shot with my smart phone....Mainly ALIEN related but you can see some Isolation and Prometheus items being worked on. #lovemyhobby #alien #alienisolation

Sculpt progress on Kane (with facehugger) - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Recreates the scenes where Kane is in stasis due to the parasite. The helmet is being worked on to fit around the head sculpt. The neck is attached via a magnet so there is some play to the articulation when the helmet is applied. The beginnings of the AUTODOC bed can also be seen. The figure is static for the exception of a variant that sports the head sculpt without the facehugger attached...that one will have the head on a ball joint. The sculpt of the facehugger is still a little raw...need to go back and clean it up a bit. #alien #nostromo #kane #autodoc #facehugger #chestburster #sculpting

Paint test for the standard Kane (Sir John Hurt) head sculpt is complete - 1/12 scale - ALIEN 79. The head sculpt is photographed attached to the NECA body (I did not sculpt the suit).
Made some paint adjustments from my initial test- Sculpt is solid. Don't see any need for adjustments to the sculpt. Working to finish the paint app for "snoopy cap" version tomorrow and will post images soon! #alien #johnhurt #NECA #nostromo #spacesuit #sculpture #painting #art

Members of Witney and District Swimming Club took a step back in time to see how the club operated when it first began in the 1920’s.
Current members were invited to hear all about the club’s history, which dates back to 1927, during their visit to the Old Bathing Place where inaugural members would train and hold swim meets.
West Oxfordshire District Council recently took stewardship of the site, situated along the river Windrush (on Bathing Place Lane) which had been left in a state of disrepair.
As part of the redevelopment of the former Early’s Mill site the council secured funding for the restoration of the area, together with other works including an extension to the Windrush Path along the riverside and a natural fish pass.
During this process, pictures dating back to the early 1900’s were discovered, which featured the first ever members of the Witney and District Swimming Club.
Some of the pictures have now been included as part of an interpretation board giving the public an opportunity to visualise how the area looked in its previous existence.
While the restoration was taking place, some original features were uncovered including steps leading into the river, a handrail for swimmers along the river wall, fixings for the spring board and a taller diving platform. The concrete bases of the former changing cubicles were also discovered and their location has been highlighted in the new paved area.
Cllr Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Not only is this area a great place to relax and enjoy some tranquil space in the middle of the busy town but it also gives people the opportunity to learn about Witney’s rich history and how the town has evolved since the early 1900’s.
Linda King, Witney and District Swimming coach, said: “It was a great honour to be invited to the original site of the swimming club and we were very impressed with the work that has been undertaken recently to preserve this historic site for future generations.
“The team was really interested to hear about the origins of swimming in Witney and understand what it must have been like to be a swimmer, training in the river, rather than our modern facilities of the Windrush Leisure Centre.
“However, one of our coaches, Sue Fifield, didn't have to use her imagination too much, as she explained that she learnt to swim at the Old Bathing House during the 1960s.
“It was also amazing that as we stood there looking out over the river from the site of the original changing cubicles, the views were almost indistinguishable from photographs taken in the early years of the twentieth century."

William Chadwell sold the manor of Donnington in 1587 to Robert Palmer d1591 whose daughter and heir Mary, flic.kr/p/i5z5zb with her husband John Bray, sold it to Thomas Chadwell who owned the chief estate there
and had succeeded his father William Chadwell c. 1608 and was apparently still living in Donnington in 1672. The estate then appears to have passed through the Selwyn family (closely connected with the Chadwells) and the Freemans to George Townsend,
