Constructed between 1965 - 69 by the GDR; intended as a symbol of communist power. At 1207 feet, it's the tallest structure in Germany. The tower has undergone a radical, symbolic transformation: After German reunification, it changed from a politically charged, national symbol of the GDR into a citywide symbol of a reunited Berlin.
