The SqURL founder was playing with a concept for a crowd-sourced male-friendly makeover site as a personal side project. He asked me to brainstorm with him, and also create mockups based on these discussions. I did some wireframes according to his specs and fleshed them out with additional ideas like makeover categories, mini-deadlines and feature content. 4me4you features - ‘HISTORIES IN FLUX’.

4me4you recently had the pleasure of visiting JD Malat Gallery to view "Histories in Flux," a new series of oil paintings by the acclaimed artist Tim Kent.
The paintings exhibited at JD Malat Gallery are reflections of what the artist describes as "playing with art history." These fragmented yet visually coherent compositions of vast interiors, sculptures, historical figures, and classical nudes blur, disconnect, and reshape before the viewer's eyes, critically engaging with the systemic power structures that Western art history has fortified, but which contemporary art must continuously challenge.
"Histories in Flux" presents twelve psychologically charged portraits, architectural depictions of estates, and cultural institutions that highlight key issues related to class, access, privacy, and consumption. Kent both resists and highlights the conformity inherent in traditional painting genres, attuned to contemporary issues. His work transforms and dissects Baroque and Georgian interior spaces, revealing an ominous past with its own dimensional terrain.
Kent's playful engagement with genre—specifically the nude, portraiture, interiors, and narrative painting—results in the distortion of old art historical systems, merging tradition with the contemporary. This imbues his work with subtle criticisms that sever traditional roles of authority. His grid-like fragmentations suggest an empirical reaction from the viewer, turning the once harmonious genre of chamber painting into a realm of architectural dissonance. As Kent states, “The perspective grid becomes a visual metaphor for the interconnectivity of how we construct our visual world and it’s influences across every level of existence.”
These obscured historic scene scapes challenge our understanding of history. Busts, portraits, monuments, museum spaces, and estates serve as vessels for thematic parallels deeply rooted in classism, elitism, and power dynamics. Through his portrayal of these traditional art historical archetypes, Kent exposes the controversial and often overlooked narratives woven into the fabric of art history's canon. While institutional spaces proudly showcase their collections as symbols of cultural education and progress, beneath this veneer lies a concealed tapestry of colonial dominance, imperial knowledge systems, class stratification, and labor obfuscation. Kent's compositions unearth these underlying complex networks, dismantling and deconstructing familiar symbols of tradition. By layering their veneer of opulence and allure with shadows and uncertainties, he transforms these once-celebrated spaces into stark objects that challenge viewers to confront the uncomfortable realities obscured by centuries of glorification.
These are the layered transparencies from my Siblings Project. I wanted to see the features that siblings have in common. I didn't want to use Photoshop because I wanted it to be an interactive display. I matched them using the feature that was the most similar. They are printed on clear film.
What are those red clouds surrounding the Andromeda galaxy? This galaxy, M31, is often imaged by planet Earth-based astronomers. As the nearest large spiral galaxy, it is a familiar sight with dark dust lanes, bright yellowish core, and spiral arms traced by clouds of bright blue stars. A mosaic of well-exposed broad and narrow-band image data, this colorful portrait of our neighboring island universe offers strikingly unfamiliar features though, faint reddish clouds of glowing ionized hydrogen gas in the same wide field of view. These ionized hydrogen clouds surely lie in the foreground of the scene, well within our Milky Way Galaxy. "One of the most distinctive features of Chartres Cathedral is the stained glass, both for its quantity and quality. There are 167 windows, including rose windows, round oculi, and tall, pointed lancet windows. The architecture of the cathedral, with its innovative combination of rib vaults and flying buttresses, permitted the construction of much higher and thinner walls, particularly at the top clerestory level, allowing more and larger windows. Also, Chartres contains fewer plain or grisaille windows than later cathedrals, and more windows with densely stained glass panels, making the interior of Chartres darker but the colour of the light deeper and richer."

"Chartres Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres), is a Roman Catholic church in Chartres, France, about 80 km (50 miles) southwest of Paris, and is the seat of the Bishop of Chartres. Mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220, it stands at the site of at least five cathedrals that have occupied the site since the Diocese of Chartres was formed as an episcopal see in the 4th century. It is in the High Gothic and Romanesque styles.
"The cathedral was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979, which called it 'the high point of French Gothic art' and a 'masterpiece'.
"The cathedral is well-preserved and well-restored: the majority of the original stained glass windows survive intact, while the architecture has seen only minor changes since the early 13th century. The building's exterior is dominated by heavy flying buttresses which allowed the architects to increase the window size significantly, while the west end is dominated by two contrasting spires – a 105-metre (349 ft) plain pyramid completed around 1160 and a 113-metre (377 ft) early 16th-century Flamboyant spire on top of an older tower. Equally notable are the three great façades, each adorned with hundreds of sculpted figures illustrating key theological themes and narratives.
"Since at least the 12th century the cathedral has been an important destination for travellers. It remains so to the present, attracting large numbers of Christian pilgrims, many of whom come to venerate its famous relic, the Sancta Camisa, said to be the tunic worn by the Virgin Mary at Christ's birth, as well as large numbers of secular tourists who come to admire the cathedral's architecture and historical merit.

We visited this fantastic collection in January 2020. The History of Ukiyo-e. This exhibit features 146 art pieces from five artists of the ukiyo-e genre, a style of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th to 19th century.

The display in Taiwan will feature a woodblock print series called "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," which includes the iconic "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," also known as "The Great Wave," Gotani said.
Created by artist Katsushika Hokusai when he was 72 years old, "The Great Wave" depicts three boats threatened by a large wave, with Mount Fuji dwarfed in the background, and is considered one of the most famous Japanese artworks.
Apart from the series by Hokusai, the exhibition will feature the works of Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Gotani said.
The Memorial features six luminous glass towers, each 54 feet high. The towers are lit internally to gleam at night. They are set on a black granite path, each one over a dark chamber which carries the name of one of the principal Nazi death camps. Smoke rises from charred embers at the bottom of these chambers. Six million numbers are etched in glass in an orderly pattern, suggesting the infamous tattooed numbers and ghostly ledgers of the Nazi bureaucracy. Evocative and rich in metaphor, the six towers recall the six main death camps, the six million Jews who died, or a menorah of memorial candles.

Founded in 1818, the Sacred Heart Academy occupies a series of buildings that were constructed at the present site beginning in 1835. The oldest section of the complex sits at the center of a structure that has been expanded multiple times with new wings, and faces a garden, centered around a statue of Jesus Christ, and gateway that opens onto 2nd Street. The original structure, originally a Federal-style building, but modified later with the addition of Second Empire-style elements, features a five-bay east facade facing the street, with red flemish bond brick exterior walls, two-over-two windows, a central front entrance door with a fanlight transom, a brick front portico, added in the early 20th Century, which features a concrete balustrade and roof, a bracketed cornice and mansard roof with gabled dormers, added in the late 19th Century, and tall chimney stacks at the north and south faces of the structure. To the north is a five-bay addition constructed in 1840, with a side-gable roof, two-over-two windows, and a red common bond brick exterior, which was constructed to provide additional classroom space. In 1856, another five-bay addition was constructed to the south of the original structure, which features a side-gable roof, two-over-two windows, and a red common bond brick exterior. In 1860, the Primary Wing was constructed to the rear (west) side of the original building, facing the interior of the campus, and features a red common bond brick exterior, arched window bays, two-over-two windows, a parapet and belfry at the west facade, added in 1905, a large arched window at the center bay of the west facade, decorative patterned brickwork, and slate mansard roofs with wide gabled dormers on the north and south facades. In 1883, a Gothic Revival-style chapel was added at the north end of the campus along Decatur Street, attached to the north end of the wing built in 1840. The former chapel, now known as Cribbin Hall, features a red common bond brick exterior, front gable slate roof, gothic arched stained glass windows with tracery, decorative brick corbeling, stone trim, a rough-hewn stone base, buttresses on the north and south facades, and two-over-two windows on the east facade. The chapel was modified in the early 20th Century with the addition of a two-story red brick structure on the east facade, which features stone trim, arched bays, a low-slope roof enclosed by a parapet, and one-over-one double-hung windows, with this wing later being extended further east and eventually connected to and obscured by a new wing built in 1980 to the east, towards 2nd Street, which features a mansard roof and red brick exterior, tying it into the earlier buildings. In 1886, the Science Building was constructed at the south end of the wing constructed in 1856, which features a red common bond brick exterior, rough-hewn stone base, arched bays containing one-over-one windows, a slate mansard roof with hipped dormers, decorative brick corbeling, and stone trim, turning the building complex into a T-shaped structure. The school complex changed very little between 1886 and 1951, with the exception of the construction of two small red brick service buildings along Decatur Street in 1893, which feature minimal ornament, arched window bays, rough-hewn stone bases, and low-slope roofs, with the larger structure, originally intended to be a parish school for the nearby St. Charles Borromeo Church, becoming utilized as a laundry.
In 1951-1952, a limestone-clad Romanesque Revival-style chapel was constructed south of the school, which is now the Shrine of Saint Philippine Duchesne, and was originally intended to be a larger structure, with a nave to the south having never been completed, the location of which is still visible as a buff brick exterior on the south face of the building. The building features roman arched stained glass windows, decorative columns, an entrance portal with a decorative mosaic, and a gabled red terra cotta tile roof. The modernist interior of the church was designed in 1964 by William Schickel and Barbara and David Day, all from Cincinnati, the latter of whom are better-known for their drawn illustrations. The chapel houses a shrine and the remains of Rose Philippine Duchesne (1769-1952), a French woman who founded the school, the first Sacred Heart Academy in the Americas, and was known for her missionary work in the early-to-mid 19th Century, and was canonized as a saint in 1988. The school was expanded in 1961 with a new two-story modernist red-brick wing between the shrine and the older buildings to the north, which is simpler in appearance than the earlier buildings in the complex. The west wing of the 1961 building contained a gymnasium, which now functions as a cafeteria. In 1967, Regis Hall was added to the west of the original buildings, which is clad in brick with a hipped roof. In 1987, the wing constructed in 1961 was extended to the west with the addition of a larger gymnasium, and the previous gymnasium was converted into a cafeteria. The academy discontinued its high school program and became co-ed in 1972, and remains so today, though classes for the middle school grades are still divided by gender. The buildings of the school constructed prior to 1961 are contributing structures in the Frenchtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The campus today remains in active use as the home of the Sacred Heart Academy, and houses the Shrine of St. Philippine Duchesne.
